COLUMBUS, Ohio - Konrad Warzycha scored the game-winning goal as the Ohio State men's soccer team put a scare into Wisconsin with a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon at a spooky Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes improve to 9-5-2 on the season, 3-2-0 in the Big Ten and remain undefeated (6-0-1) on their home grass. Wisconsin drops to 2-12-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.

"Well, [we got] a win," head coach John Bluem said after the match. "That was the most important thing today. We needed to make sure we got a result. Great goal by Konrad [Warzycha] in the first half. Excellent service by Sam Scales. We just grinded it out. Let's face it; it wasn't a great game today."

Great game or not, the Buckeyes pieced together back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-September and moved into a tie for second in the Big Ten with Michigan. They also extended their conference-leading shutout mark to eight and allowed Matt Lampson's goals-against average to drop to 0.72 on the season.

The match will be televised on same-day delay at 7 p.m. Sunday on the Big Ten Network.

Warzycha made it happen with his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 28th minute off an assist from Sam Scales, who earned his 15th career helper on the play and moved into seventh place all-time at Ohio State with Andrew Magill (2006-09). Following a Wisconsin foul, Scales took the free kick from about 25 yards out and sailed the ball into the goal area where Warzycha showed his size and athleticism with a diving header into the right side.

With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 10-5-2 overall, 4-2-0 in the Big Ten and an undefeated 7-0-1 on the Jesse field, marking the first clean slate at home since 1974.

The Hoosiers, already the 2010 Big Ten regular-season champion, take their first loss in conference play this season and drop to 9-6-2 overall, 4-1-1 in league play. This is just the seventh time in Indiana program history its team has lost to an opponent in three-consecutive meetings after the Buckeyes also swept the Hoosiers in Bloomington a year ago.

The Buckeyes finished tied for second in the Big Ten with Michigan and earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tourney by virtue of head-to-head results after Ohio State defeated the Wolverines, 1-0, Sept. 25. The Scarlet & Gray will begin its defense of the 2009 Big Ten tourney title at 12:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Wisconsin in the Big Ten quarterfinals. Complete seeding is below; bracket is attached.

The pairings for the 2010 Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament have been announced, with conference champion Indiana taking the top seed. The tournament, hosted by Penn State, will feature three opening round games on Thursday, followed by two semifinal games on Friday. The championship game will take place on Sunday at Noon ET, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The Hoosiers earned their 13th Big Ten title after finishing their conference slate at 4-1-1, clinching the tournament's top seed and a bye into the semifinals. Indiana will await the winner of the Penn State-Northwestern quarterfinal match, which will be played at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Nittany Lions and Wildcats tied for fourth place in the Big Ten standings with Penn State owning the tiebreaker, giving it the No. 4 seed and Northwestern the No. 5 seed.

While Ohio State and Michigan tied for second in the Big Ten standings at 4-2-0, a 1-0 Buckeye win over the Wolverines on Sept. 25 gives Ohio State the No. 2 seed. The Buckeyes will take on No. 7 Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals. The second-seeded Ohio State men's soccer team held No. 7-seed Wisconsin to a scoreless draw in a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal yesterday afternoon in University Park, Pa., but the Badgers advanced by winning 5-4 on penalty kicks.

Ohio State hit (10-5-3) its first three penalty kicks but missed the fourth attempt, putting Wisconsin (4-12-3) in position to capitalize. The Badgers converted on all five attempts.

The Buckeyes had a 30-5 advantage in shots.

"We had plenty of opportunities to win today," Ohio State coach John Bluem said.

Bluem said the Buckeyes "will move forward to preparing for the NCAA Tournament."

Lady Buckeyes won!!!!

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - No. 3 seed Ohio State held on to edge No. 2 seed Virginia, 3-2, in the round of 16 Saturday afternoon at Klockner Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 16-4-2 on the season and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals, hosting Georgetown at 5 p.m. Friday.

It will mark the second NCAA quarterfinal appearance in program history and first since 2004. The 16 wins the Buckeyes have recorded this season are the second-most in Ohio State history, trailing only that 2004 team that finished 19-4-3.
"I'm so proud of this team," head coach Lori Walker said. "They executed the game plan, found gaps in Virginia's defense and were special in transition. Late in the game when we were under tremendous pressure, they maintained composure and found a way to finish the game."
Virginia was a very strong opponent so we needed everybody to step up for us. We were fortunate enough to get a couple of early goals and our defense was able to hang on for a huge win for us.

Freshman Omar Vallejo scored his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to give Ohio State a 2-1 win over Providence in the second round of the NCAA men's soccer tournament yesterday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Konrad Warzycha converted on a penalty kick in the 58th minute for Ohio State, the No.16 seed. The shot resulted from a flagrant foul to Sam Scales near the top of the penalty area.

Ohio State managed one shot in the first half but went to halftime scoreless after goalkeeper Matt Lampson stopped a penalty shot by Providence's Matt Marcin.

"(With all the issues with the wind in the first half), for us to get to halftime 0-0 was big," coach John Bluem said. "We talked in the locker room about what we needed to do in the second half to get that goal that would put us ahead. It was a tough, physical game though. Everyone got tired today."
Providence (13-6-3) scored late on an Andrew Sousa header. It was the first goal allowed by Ohio State in the past 465 minutes.

Ohio State (11-5-3) will play top-seeded Louisville next Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With a quarterfinal berth on the line, the 16th-seeded Ohio State men's soccer team travels to top-seeded and undefeated Louisville for a third-round battle at 7 p.m. Sunday in the 2010 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at Cardinal Park.
Ohio State (11-5-3) advanced to the third round after a first-round bye and knocking off Providence, 2-1, last Sunday in the second round. This is the Buckeyes' fourth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, third as a seeded team, and eighth overall. They have advanced to the third round on two previous occasions, the last in 2007 en route to the national championship game.
Louisville (17-0-3) defeated College of Charleston, 3-1, in its second-round match a week ago for the program's first appearance in the round of 16. The Cardinals have made the NCAA Tournament field each of the last four years and have a combined 2-3-0 record in those contests.

0-1: Louisville heads one past our keeper in the 23'. OSU player originally headed it but instead of clearing it he accidentally hit it across the goal mouth for a pretty easy one. Louisville is outclassing OSU in this one; their passing through the midfield is text book.
Halftime: OSU became more aggresssive after giving up the goal, but Louisville is still playing better. They are able to maintain possession on our side of the field. Shots on goal are 5-1 in favor of Louisville.
1-1: OSU has come out much better and is playing like a team. They are the equal to Louisville so far as Austin McAnena nets one at the 51'. Nice pass across the field and up to him. Louisville D wasn't set and he netted it from close to the 18. As I typed a Louisville shot hits our post.
1-2: Game is still being played evenly this half but off a free kick near midfield the pass went down close to the left corner, crossed into the box and then headed into OSU's net at the 62'. A very good play. OSU defender caught off guard by the timing of the free kick and didn't have his man (who earned the assist) tightly marked.
Game Over: OSU was Louisville's equal in the 2nd half. They were just outclassed in the first half and hence the difference. The second half produced several sustained offensive possessions by the Buckeyes.

The Buckeye Women's soccer team is facing Notre Dame in a Final Four matchup at 4 pm Eastern today on ESPN2/ESPNU..

It's the team's first appearnce in the Final Four - best of luck to them.

Honestly cannot say that Notre Dame didn't deserve the win (even though sometimes the better team loses). Lots of offensive chances prior to the goal for ND.

Good season. Made program history.
