Ohio State Men's Soccer (Official Thread)

Don't use that as an excuse for your last game, your football season has been over for a couple weeks now.

Which "last game", dipshit? Our last soccer game, which we won, or our last football game, which we won? They have ice ponds in Santa Barbara? Because you're about to fall through one if you keep trolling...

UCSB returns 7 starters not 6 from last years championship team. I'm looking forward to the game. Do you think you will be able to draw more than the 800 fans you had for the Louisville game? That is just sad. Here in Santa Barbara we had 9641 fans for our game against Washington, more than your team drew for the entire season.

Man, I feel really bad that I was one off on how many starters you had coming back. I guess now I'll have to pay some sort of penance in retribution to the mighty Gauchos. Look I'll talk about the game with you if you want to, but if you're here to flame because we're a Midwestern school and you don't think we deserve your respect then fuck off.

This might not mean much to you but I can guarantee Ohio State would draw better attendance figures if soccer were a spring sport. Competing for time against the very best top division football program isn't easy. Then to compete against a basketball team that is being tuned into a perennial power, and a hockey team that is very talented but ranges from good to under-performing. Add to all of that a plethora of other sports people are passionate about and Ohio State soccer becomes about ninth fiddle. So I'm happy for you that you have great attendance figures, but lets be honest in terms of athletics men's soccer is the only thing your school has going on. Ohio State bows down to no school for any reason and I certainly do not acquiesce to you.

Even though I am rooting for OSU, I have to agree with ucsbfan. I went to the game on Wednesday and I thought the turn out was pitiful. It may have been because of the UNC basketball game in town, but I doubt there will be that many more people here tomorrow. I would love to be proven wrong.

While I was at the Louisville game, I was actually wondering what kind of reception ncaa soccer gets on coastal campuses, and ucsbfan just confirmed the reason for my pondering.

I love getting in for free after the second half, but how awesome would it be if students packed the stands on Sunday? It won't happen. We love sports that induce brain damage in Columbus.

The only reason I corrected you on the number of players was because if you are going to analyze a team that isn't your own you should at least be correct about it, I wasn't nasty about it or anything so not sure why you were to me. Winter conditioning for football? What do you do go out to the field and watch them run sprints, that has got to be so fun. Is that really your excuse for not going to the soccer game, because you had to watch some 300 lb. guy run sprints across the field? I found this quote pretty funny, "Ohio State bows down to no school for any reason and I certainly do not acquiesce to you." Wow, that's a little over the top, it sounds like an inferiority complex to me but that is an entirely different issue. Of course I know OSU still has a bowl, I said the end of the season because it was the end of the regular season and the bowl isn't for like 5 weeks. At least UCSB won't have to worry about a home field advantage for OSU because it is supposed to rain tomorrow so you will only have about 150 people there. That's all I want to say from here on the West Coast where we don't have a football team (OMG how does any school live without a football team!!!) but we do love our soccer.

Yep, you're right you haven't made a single attempt at being antagonistic.

Look, I'd love it if more people came out for soccer but they don't. I have been to every sport Ohio State has to offer during my time at school, most people don't and football is our best sport, not just the most prominent, but our best so it draws the crowds. You can criticize all you want, but at least don't act like a child and tell me you didn't do what you just did.

If you actually read my post I said I wasn't nasty about you analyze my team and getting it wrong, and you were nasty. I wasn't talking about anything else I said. The nasty part was in the same sentence as the 6 vs. 7 returning players part. Maybe actually read what I said instead of telling me what you think I said.

So let me get this straight, I make one mistake about your team. Instead of coming on here and simply pointing it out and talking about the game; you, take potshots about our attendance figures and I’m supposed to say thanks very much for the correction, have a nice day. I think not.

Seriously, if you really want to discuss the game, why so hostile? Soccer's simply never been a power program and understandably gets lost in the mix at Ohio State.

Right now, we have one of the top 5 all-time football programs going to its 5th BCS bowl in the last 6 year, men's and women's basketball emerging as national powers, a solid--albeit underperforming--D1 hockey program and national power programs in volleyball and fencing that will contend for national championships this Winter. Christ, we even have the dominant NCAA synchronized swimming program--something like 26 of the last 30 national championships. These are only the sports in the Fall/Winter transition.

Is it that surprising that few care about a mediocre soccer program?

Whatever, just enjoy the game or watch big fat guys run sprints, whichever you prefer. I will be back to critique the game after it is over tomorrow, even if my team loses because my school is not totally infallible and perfect in every way as you think yours is. Good Day.

Oh and by the way your soccer team is having their best season ever and won the Big 10, you could show just a little appreciation.
1. I have been to every home game this year.

2. In 2005 I traveled to Santa Clara to watch my team even though I was pretty sure they were going to lose.

Before telling me how much respect I should give my team you might want to see who has made most of the posts in this thread. Calling me out was pretty dumb, I think I'm a pretty good fan, but maybe I don?t live up to your lofty standards.

Just one more thing, before you get offended because someone doesn't know everything you want him or her to know about you team. You might want to complain to your athletic department so that people that are interested about learning about your team aren't misinformed next time.

"The Gauchos return a total of 21 letterwinners and six starters from last year's team that finished 17-7-1 overall and claimed the university's first national title since 1979."

UC Santa Barbara Official Athletic Site

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt over your own athletic department, but one of you is wrong.
