Game Thread Ohio State v Washington 2018 Rose Bowl Pasadena, CA 1/1/19 5pm on ESPN

LOL.... I seriously thought Ontario was straight up sarcasm.

I have 10 hours today to figure this out at work. I've found some good prices out of Orlando (however, then it's a MUST we go back to Orlando). Will check Sarasota, St Pete, etc as well today. I don't know why, but it seems as if no TPA airline wants to fly to California.

We don't mind flying into another airport .... husband wants to fly to Vegas, but I feel like that's a trip all in itself.
(However, if I did find myself at the Westgate for a night, can I use the Upset Game "money" to bet on a bowl games? Or is it just for this website? FFS, she still hasn't figured this out yet?!).

Unless it's within a 2 hour drive (or 3ish w/traffic), I'm not returning the car to the same airport (which just eliminates Vegas). Therefore a one-way drop-off fee. Not sure if there's a way to book (and pay) for our car w/my points for something like that. Hertz/Thrifty farmed out their customer service overseas and trained them to do only the basics. So, if you have a question that's even remotely complicated, it takes 4x as long.

I used to book flights from NY-DC so if you put in New York, the program would just automatically include all 3. I'm guessing this is not the case for LA (but I was so thank you).

Again, appreciate your help so much. Anyone going who's still looking for lodging I highly recommend AirBnB. There's still tons of places in LA to stay for reasonable rates. The best part of Airbnb is you get a kitchen which allows you to save money on lunch or whatever. Just me but I wouldn't rent a just a room. Our chances, we'd get UW fans taking the other room. We got a house and it was a great experience. Unless you're tied to Pasadena, I think it's much better than a hotel. Most times, you get better accommodations. Then again, you could get randomly killed since there's no "staff."

So far for us no loss of life, yet.

One other thing to consider depending on appetite to drive;

Fly into Phoenix, rent a car to drive to LA (5 hours or so) turn around after the game and drive back to PHX.

Might be a much easier deal for flights/hotels.

Just an idea. I can drive forever, it doesn't bother me but I know some people hate it so if that's too much just ignore.

No it's cool. But, we'd probably just do the one way drop off deal at that point (I can usually find one leg of the trip to be reasonable-- just not the other). Esp if it saves us enough $$. We've been thru the one-way drop off before and it wasn't that bad. Driving from MD to FL. So, I'm guessing it wouldn't be any more than that. LOL. I wouldn't be doing the driving so I could care less. He literally drove that entire trip. It's safer for everyone if I just nap.

Rent a Uhaul pickup with one way drop? Not joking. May be worth a look. Newer pickups aren’t terrible drivers for a day like that.

I have points for Thrifty Blue Chip for something like 5 days. So, the car would be free. I just don't know if we can use points to cover a one-way fee. But, it's not going to cost anywhere near what we could save in airfare. I know for sure b/c I've seen the prelim airfare for a lot of places and know what those fees are from Baltimore to Tampa.

But, these are all super creative ideas. :)

If we left the Thurs before we could drive there in 36 hours. Then we could pay for a one way ticket home. LMAO. No. We'd most likely hate each other by the time we got there and the rental car fee may cost just as much as flying. BUT.... I will not rule this out.

The reason my husband is willing to stay or go is because he is not willing to take the time to go through all the airfare scenarios and look at ea Airbnb. But, I can forgive it because he's currently MAKING both pos & neg cables for my car battery, and changing out the spark plugs, etc.. Not to mention actually driving.

TIME.TO.GET......comfortable. Nice lazy Saturday and also rewatching The Game with a Beam and Coke with my 2yr old screaming "O-H" every two seconds and 2 week old baby boy sleeping on my chest. Ass ton of snow on the ground. Life is good.
Yep, same here. Worked half a day, home now lounging on the couch. Just fired up a batch of chili and settling in to watch a replay of The Game myself.

@Fungo Squiggly Bummer. For some reason I felt like I needed your knowledge as someone who was going....

I keep going back and forth as to how worth it this it will be.... besides NYC, LA is one of most favorite places. However, I have major decision issues.

Would this be worth it? How much do I care about Urban Meyer and his last game? I was very upset about him leaving initially. If we lived in Ohio it'd be an easier decision considering we'd escape cold, we wouldn't live near other bowl games. And, being on vacation makes me feel obligated to do more things than just relax & nap in PJs. I'm still salty at Purdue/committee/Clemson/Notre Dame/the entire town of West Laf.. Otherwise this would simply be a 3 hour drive. We could stay at the freaking Delano for 2k.

On the other hand, CFB is like no other sport (in fact, I don't follow anything else), I got the green light to take Saturday off, Urban Meyer is a legend, we aren't surrounded by Buckeye fans (at least knowingly) on a daily basis, I heard you can watch them prepping the floats the night before, I read the Parade in itself is awesome also we bought tickets. We don't have kids (at least for now) so it's not like we have an obligation to feed anyone but ourselves....

But... I mean, naps are pretty much one of my favorite hobbies. I'm so lucky to have my Mom's genes & not be fat.

Husband will pretty much do whatever. Though, I can tell he is hoping we go. However, he is incredibly understanding if it wouldn't happen. Most people have said, yes life is too short. On the other hand, they're 60-75 and we're in our mid-ish 30s. I feel like I just need someone to tell me why they're going and if there's something that sets this bowl apart from the probably 40 in Florida. No pressure.
If you decide to get rid of the tickets I'd be interested. Even at the last minute.
