Game Thread Ohio State v Washington 2018 Rose Bowl Pasadena, CA 1/1/19 5pm on ESPN

My husband desperately wants us to fly into Vegas. Somehow it's the most expensive of them all. But, maybe not Orlando.

No it's cool. But, we'd probably just do the one way drop off deal at that point (I can usually find one leg of the trip to be reasonable-- just not the other). Esp if it saves us enough $$. We've been thru the one-way drop off before and it wasn't that bad. Driving from MD to FL. So, I'm guessing it wouldn't be any more than that. LOL. I wouldn't be doing the driving so I could care less. He literally drove that entire trip. It's safer for everyone if I just nap.

This is the route we went. Fly into Vegas, fly home out LAX. Staying in Vegas for NYE because I'm in denial that I am getting old and said F it. I'll sleep when I'm dead, haha.

Husband will pretty much do whatever. Though, I can tell he is hoping we go. However, he is incredibly understanding if it wouldn't happen. Most people have said, yes life is too short. On the other hand, they're 60-75 and we're in our mid-ish 30s. I feel like I just need someone to tell me why they're going and if there's something that sets this bowl apart from the probably 40 in Florida. No pressure.

In same age group as you. It's been almost a decade since the last Rose Bowl and I was in high school when they beat Jake the Snake after 96 season. Life is about experiences, IMO. Unless this trip is going to drain your life savings or prevent you from putting food on the table, then I say do it. My tickets came in the mail today.

Chris Petersen has a history of running trick plays in big games. Had WR Fuller pass for TD vs WSU this year. Had another WR throw a pass vs PSU last year. And if course he coached Boise back in the Fiesta Bowl a while ago.

OSU should run a lot of delayed handoffs from the spread. The Huskies were only putting 4 or 5 guys in the box a lot of plays vs the WSU spread and the Cougars were able to have some success with that.

I believe OSU has a 7-game win streak vs current Pac-12 teams.

THANK YOU!!! :biggrin::biggrin:

Your post was actually incredibly helpful (esp since we're about the same age). My Dad passed away this year (it's okay, he was 94 and we were prepared.... obv had me VERY late in life & remarried). He left me some money (over 10k under 20k) & I had some saved before this. Not sure when I stopped thinking just like you (would always spend money on experiences instead of STUFF). At some point, I became terrified of spending money & making decisions (really difficulty making decisions lead to not spending money). My Mom even offered to give us $300 toward the trip. I keep thinking, what would my Dad do? It is his $ afterall. He was pretty impulsive so I think he would do it.

In any case, I really appreciate your post. Since you got your tickets already (and probably not in bench seating), you probably planned much better than we did. The tickets were the only thing I wasn't stressing over, ironically & got them for face value. But, my husband is really good at being chill about stuff like that... he's like, "as long as we get in, I guarantee we'll be able to see-- we'll figure it out."

So your trip is mostly going to be Vegas, it seems? Did it cost you an arm & a leg to fly out? We have all these weird gift cards (eBay... I could buy a SW card, same with Amazon) but then they'd just have to be shipped out to us meanwhile prices go up. And, like, medium amounts of bonus points. LOL.... enough for it to not be worth anything.

I don't suppose you'd mind if I PM you if I get stuck with something? I'm guessing it was worth it for you the first time so it's probably a pretty cool experience?

Again.... thank you very much for replying.

exactly how I remember them from 2003 and 2007

tsun arrogance with Illinois history and a legitimately beautiful campus

The campus is nice but very disorganized building plan if you actually have to use it.
Apparently they still own a big chunk of downtown Seattle and more or less rent the land out - which is how they got private money as a public school.
And fake Japanese restaurants ("Ichiro" is Korean ... I like Korean food ... but... why pretend to be something else? For some reason this abounds in Seattle and esp University district. Don't know how many bad attempts at Ramen I've tasted...)

Now that's a plan I can get behind

Did you check the link I posted a couple pages back? LOL.... I hate to get rid of someone who would buy my tix if I had to get rid of em. But, I'd like to help a Buckeye. Not sure if they're still available but you should check.

Edit, just so you know if you do buy those tickets either through the website ormie the ones that are for sale are end zones or corner. However it was worth $180 to me just to get in there. 10TV had an article with the link as well.
Your previous question about your Upset 'winnings' - it's just fake money and can only be used for the Sportsbook bets on this website, there's a tab at the top of the page to get to them.

And unfortunately it is only fake money - on the previous version of BP my account was up to $648 Billion (yes, with a B), before all amounts were re-initialized with the upgrade to BP. If only one-millionth of that had been real!

That would cover those blue pills and catheters. BTW, don't use those at the same time.

Edit: Or do, I don't care.

LOL.... I seriously thought Ontario was straight up sarcasm.

I have 10 hours today to figure this out at work. I've found some good prices out of Orlando (however, then it's a MUST we go back to Orlando). Will check Sarasota, St Pete, etc as well today. I don't know why, but it seems as if no TPA airline wants to fly to California.

We don't mind flying into another airport .... husband wants to fly to Vegas, but I feel like that's a trip all in itself.
(However, if I did find myself at the Westgate for a night, can I use the Upset Game "money" to bet on a bowl games? Or is it just for this website? FFS, she still hasn't figured this out yet?!).

Unless it's within a 2 hour drive (or 3ish w/traffic), I'm not returning the car to the same airport (which just eliminates Vegas). Therefore a one-way drop-off fee. Not sure if there's a way to book (and pay) for our car w/my points for something like that. Hertz/Thrifty farmed out their customer service overseas and trained them to do only the basics. So, if you have a question that's even remotely complicated, it takes 4x as long.

I used to book flights from NY-DC so if you put in New York, the program would just automatically include all 3. I'm guessing this is not the case for LA (but I was so thank you).

Again, appreciate your help so much. Anyone going who's still looking for lodging I highly recommend AirBnB. There's still tons of places in LA to stay for reasonable rates. The best part of Airbnb is you get a kitchen which allows you to save money on lunch or whatever. Just me but I wouldn't rent a just a room. Our chances, we'd get UW fans taking the other room. We've got a house before and it was a great experience. Unless you're tied to Pasadena, I think it's much better than a hotel. Most times, you get better accommodations. Then again, you could get randomly killed since there's no "staff."

So far for us no loss of life, yet.

Holy shit, girl. Book it, or don't.

LOL.... it's all good. Thanks for explaining it. I'm actually kind of glad it's not worth real cash bc I have no clue. This will give me a chance to practice for a trip to Vegas next CFB season. But, seriously thanks for explaining it to me. My family thought it was hilarious I still had no idea.

EDIT: The best prize was the banner. Yes, I'm such a girl....
