Game Thread Ohio State vs Army, 09/16/17 @ 4:30 ET (FOX)

Penn State is 100% going to stack the box and force us to throw, just like they did last year to great effect. Which does not portend well for us, considering the state of the defense.

For a yardstick of how well we can perform with JT, let's look at Urban's last year with Tebow.

Crushed lower level competition, beat Cincinnati in a BCS bowl game, but importantly were demolished by the first team they played with a similar talent level (Alabama). Unless JT somehow figures out how to pass this year, I am tempering my expectations. Hope against hope he proves me wrong though.

Penn State will also bring significant heat from the right side and we saw Prince struggle with a small pass rusher again today

...but when we can't go down the field on Army that's an issue
Scoring on six of eight "true" possessions (I'm not counting the ninth possession where Haskins rocketed us down the field only to having to take a knee), including five TDs and 513 yards (again, not counting the 73 yards on the Haskins drive), pretty much is indeed moving the ball down the field. Hard to move the ball more when your opposition has a 37/23 minute TOP advantage...

Honestly, about as good as I think we could have looked following the OU loss. We stuck with an identifiable gameplan on both sides of the ball and considering how much time Army will eat up on offense, I think we did a damn good job. Tough to use Army as much of a measuring stick and not everything was a positive, but they are not a terrible team and we dominated the game. JT did what JT could do, Dobbins looked terrific again, the DL can be pretty dominant at times, Tuf Borland was a flat-out star in this game (so excited to see him play like that), and Haskins has a damned rocket for an arm (we know that but he looked awfully comfortable out there). Good day to be a Buckeye and a nice bounce back, good job out there boys.

Won't beat PSU with this game plan from today which is why I was so upset earlier.. I've calmed a tad but not all the way.

Here's what I saw today.

1. Borland is a MLB and Worely should be moved back to OLB.

2. Schiano is on the field which tells me they aren't happy with our we are communicating

3. Defense was ok today other then the one big drive.

4. I thought it was interesting that Fuller was on the field instead of another backer. We went really light on defense.

5. Sheffield played a good game today and he's big enough that I'd be interested in him playing safety. I thought Webb was picked on some today.

6. Jk is an amazing talent and should be given every opportunity to take over a game. I wouldnt be shocked to see Weber Transfer. He has effectively been replaced as starter.

7. I Thought the game plan was great. Run run run with short passes to build JTs confidents and then went down the field bit to test what we had. Only 1 problem here...

8. JT just can't hit a reicever past a certain distance. Missed a few guys and for the most part didn't even attempt a deep throw.

9. We didn't get better today. The reason I'm so upset and I shouldn't be because I should have understood this. We simply won today because we could win. We were better at every position and it showed but somehow we had our starters in deep into the 4th.

10. Haskins has a live arm. Yeah it was 4 throws but they were 4 of the longest throws we had all day and of those throws he was throwing to Walk on athletes. People all the sudden just didn't get open and run perfect routes guys... no Haskins threw ropes with good timing to give his folks a chance and that's something we haven't even see from JT.

11. A win is win... and I suppose it's better then not seeing Haskins at all. 1 drive this game hopefully can turn into may be 1 quarter next week. We can still find out if Haskins is the option in the next few weeks.
