Game Thread Ohio State vs. Bowling Green, 09/03/16 @ 12pm ET, BTN

  • I get the sense this will be a statement game. You never know how a team is going to approach a game with a non big 5 especially when the following week is a premier matchup. Do they go in not trying to show too much? I doubt it, urban seems to like to show a lot to force additional preparation. The other side in this one is the respect urban has for bg. But if the edge is the mantra you disregard sentiment. I think all the young talent looking to cement a starting role makes this one a statement game.
I think you're off a week. Or we have differing opinions on Tulsa.

How can beating a MAC team make a statement? Maybe if Purdue upsets Western Michigan...

It's not simply beating them that makes a statement it's how you beat them. Will this team have the same demeanor as lasts years team playing not to lose and beating N. Illinois type teams 20-13? Or will they come out on fire owning the lines and making big plays and win the game 66-0 like Kent state in 2014. I win or loss is not what makes the statement it's how they choose to play in a game they are clearly supposed to win and win big.
In other words is this a team that wants to take every opportunity to get better and prove they are still on top of the mountain even with the turnover or are they going to wait for the big games to show up?

Do you think it will mean much if they win by only 4? Would that raise your concerns? It would raise mine and if that's the case it means something to win convincingly. I don't think it makes a difference if they win by 24 or 44 but they need to clear at least a few possessions. Your point about VT is exactly my point, they can get up for the big games, but if you aren't improving week to week and playing not to lose you increase your chances of losing the next big game.

Naw, the statement will be made by BG trying to show that they belong on the same field as tOSU. AND, for the players that Urb has starting, to show that they can belong. Don't really care what the score is (well, heck yes, I do), as long as I/we can see the OL clicking, and the DL crashing, the LBs cleaning up, and the DBs picking off passes. Oh yeah, and whomever the RB will be, to get the big yard when needed. Pretty sure that the Buckeyes will play a vigorous game, with the #2s playing their a**es off, trying to move past the still unsettled starting team(s).....it's great to see college football again.....Go Bucks

This certainly can be a momentum game though. After we lost to tech in 14' we started destroying teams and it was that in my opinion that enabled us to regain our footing and go on our run late that year.

We can't stroll into Oklahoma having beaten out first two opponents with scores of 35-31 or 20-13. This team needs confidence and a score in the range of 45-10 would accomplish that.

They can make a bad statement, though some great teams have done that too.

I don't think they can make a very strong statement in the positive direction given the opponent. A very competent showing is the high water mark in my IMO.

I get some of the concern about the youth of OSU but look at what BGSU is dealing with for Woody's sake.

From the best team in BGSU history they lost:
-the head coach
-5,000 yard QB
-1,300 yard rusher
-top 3 receivers
-1 all-MAC OL
-the defense got DESTROYED (as MAC defenses do) several times last year so i don't really care what they bring back

For fucks sake fellas, this is an Urban Meyer reloading Ohio State team against a first year head coach reloading MAC team

This isn't going to be remotely close
