Ohio State vs. Bucknell, Saturday, Dec. 15 @ 12PM, BTN

A yucky game for a yucky day.

Our team overall is pretty average athletically. We're on the small side in terms of height/length for a high-major. We're not very experienced. Our overall skill level is decent, at best.

We have a good coach and we have guys who seem to buy in, but there is very little margin for error with this team. Today is case in point.

We can only hope that the lack of mental focus on defense today was a product of the long lay-off, because if we play defense like that in the B1G we're gonna get beat more often than not.

I mean, it was a "W", so that's nice.

My preseason thoughts remain unchanged. Overall, not a particularly talented team. They'll likely lose a couple they shouldn't, win a couple they shouldn't and probably finish 4th-6th in the conference.

Talent infusion coming next season.
You are right. I feel like they should be in that 4-6 range, but I wont be disappointed if they finish lower so long as they make the tournament. TBH, it is a rebuilding year that no achievements were expected from these guys prior to the season started. They have put themselves in a good position thus far, but there is a lot of work left.

No one will care about the closeness of this game two months from now, especially after Bucknell wins their conference again. It would only be memorable had the Bucks lost.

If you offered me 9-1 overall, 2-0 in the B1G, before the season I would've taken it. Those wins at Cincinnati and Creighton weren't erased today.

CH needs to adjust his end of game strategy - it's not enough to play Tressellball and bleed the clock, you have to get good shots and score some points. Almost lost a game they never should have lost due to the offense going in a shell the last 4 minutes.
I do not know if you can blame the last 3-4 minutes on Holtmann. I do not think that he is the type of coach who just tries to run out the clock during the last minutes of a game. Sometimes the players are unwilling (afraid) to take shots during the last minutes of a game especially when they are starting to get squeezed. Hopefully, they will learn from this game.

Looking around CBB yesterday, seemed to be a lot of teams struggle/win ugly like the Bucks did. Syracuse lost.

Long layoffs, holiday season, finals, college kids...take your pick.

I'm not reading too much into this one other than Holtman has made the program mentally and physically tough. The kids have clearly bought into what he is teaching.

There can be no question of that imo.

Sounds about right. The BiG is really deep this year though so the boys shouldnt be negative if they end this way to be honest. They'll make the tourney if this is the case so I'd be happy about that. I am silently hoping though by game 20 they stop the unforced errors and mental mistakes and figure how to channel their energy for at least 32-34 minutes per game. 40 is unrealistic.

There are some guys on this team that can make some serious noise so it's a lot of fun watching them grow even with the issues they currently have. Holtman, I say again, is freaking magic.
