Game Thread Ohio State vs Michigan State - 10/05/19, 7:30PM (ABC)

In my mind, NU was the measuring stick for the Silver Bullet defense. We knew going in our offense would roll against the NU defense.

The silver bullets obviously passed.

This week we’ll see how Elite this offense really is. I’m cautiously optimistic, but I do think we may come back to earth a bit. We’ve been ripping holes in D lines and the throws that are shorter and typically more dangerous have been to wide open receivers.

I’m excited...and nervous to see how Fields responds to tighter windows. Will he be on time and accurate, throw into danger, or hold the ball too long as we’ve seen on occasion. How will he respond when we aren’t running for 7 a pop? Can he run the read option consistently when ‘the chips are down’?

Based on yesterday, I don’t see Sparty having much success against this D...but they have a knack for dashing potential championship seasons, so I’ll be nervous.

The schedule is really lining up nicely - our most difficult opponents are later and at home (Wiscy and Pedsters). Of course TSUN with a first time coach on the road will thrilling regardless of records. Go Bucks!

MSU better get alot better in the secondary. My goodness the 1 good WR Indiana had looked like Mike Thomas out there let alone our group of studs.

The reason why MSU has beaten us in the last several years is because of predictable/conservative play calling. JT Barrett never threw in the middle of the field.

Day is gonna force them to defend every damn piece of field turf in the Shoe. They blitz they better get there or they will pay.

This is the game where we hit screens, wheel routes, and use the TE. Revisit this thread after the game. The wheel routes will be there early and often.

Like I have said 49-7.

BTN is showing the 60 minute version of the Sparty - Hoosier game.

Lewerke is impressive in getting rid of the ball before the rush gets home

but

A Hoosier DE just came around the edge and face planted at Lewerke’s heels. Only then did he bail out. If that has been Chase Young, he would have been Wernered into C deck

So, Fields’ release still seems to be a work in progress and it also seems to my untrained eye that he waits to throw until receivers break and convey they’re ready for the ball. Again, this is just my opinion. Although I will say that downfield completion to Victor last night was a step toward dispelling this.

What concerns me is MSU playing wayyy tighter coverage than previous opponents and Fields is forced to throw with anticipation and quickly in response to what’s likely to be the most intense pressure this offensive line has faced thus far. Fields’ little windup can give good DB’s a chance to react a bit more quickly — leaving him prone to a turnover.

I don’t attribute wins or success to one variable or dynamic. This one will be a combination of execution, will and physicality. MSU is going to throw its hardest punch. If nothing else, I respect Dantonio too much to think otherwise — all recent criticisms of him aside.

It looks like their center is really weak; weak to the extent at which he shouldn’t be playing DIV 1 football. He looks THAT bad at times. Emphasize pressure up the middle and throw some stunts at them.

While we keep saying we haven’t seen a defense like this, this shit goes both ways. Let’s fucking dance.

MSU's Offense is improving but still pedestrian at best. And they haven't seen a D like ours this year that is totally dominating games. They will struggle to score. On the other hand we haven't gone up against a Defense as good as theirs. Fortunately for us we have one of the best Offenses in CFB. Over time the good guys should prevail and I think in the end it won't be close because we may just have the best OL in the nation.

No...MSU DB's are not good and got called for holding and PI because they were getting eaten alive by Hale. I can only imagine what it will be like against our WR's. Indiana moved the pocket for Penix. We will do the same. Fields is a much better QB than Penix. We have a better OL and WR's than Indiana. The game is at home. MSU plays like they did Saturday and we will embarrass them.

No MSU's secondary is garbage.

You know, I don’t doubt this one bit. My issue is reality typically has no stake in this specific affair. It’s just that type of series recently.

I respect you for having watched that game.

This OSU team is playing so well that every week we win the narrative is "OSU is still unchallenged". Which is funny because we have heard 3 times now (Cincinnati, Indiana, and UN) that for those weeks that that was the week we will finally get tested.

To me it seems like they're good teams but we are so good that it looks easy.

Maybe you are right about MSU but I think it'll be just another situation of "well that looked easy".

This is what pisses me off about ESPiN. You can't tell me every week that this is the first test for a new coach, young QB, and/or untested defense then say the following week that the Buckeyes haven't played anyone good. Beat Sparty and remind them where they belong. Out on the screened in patio at the kids' table.

What the inactivated hell is going on here? The Chicago Bears with throwup, winged helmets? May their bargain with the devil follow them to their dessicated graves! Besides that, yech!

Your first mistake is comparing this team to any in the past.

MSU's kicker is shaky at best. He missed 3 FG's against ASU. He missed 1 Saturday. Special Teams is a weakness.

The game is at the Shoe.

Their OL is average at best. Our DL against their OL is a mismatch...huge mismatch.

I have watched two of their games. They are a decent team with a good front 7 on defense. They have little depth.

I am still wondering where they are gonna get their points from.

Nebraska has better skill players than MSU. MSU might score 14 offensive points. Unless we hand them non offensive points this will be a massacre.

If we had last years defense this might be a game but we don't. We have a better offense 52 PPG,hell of alot better defense, and great special teams....less penalties and we are at home. We matchup well with MSU.

I said 49-17 for Nebraska score. Corn was lucky to get 7.

That was a road game and this is a home game.

I’d give the offensive edge to Nebraska and clearly the defensive edge to Sparty.

I think we shut Sparty out.

I’m going 31-0 good guys.

Sparty may get a few meaningless points so I could be off there. But I could also be off on Buckeye scores as well. This team has been toying with people.
