Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

So a lot of folk are comparing Mayfield w/Manziel ~ surely the kiss of death. One wonders if Mayfield was/is a rich spoiled brat just like little Johnny!

carry on ...

Well, his daddy did have enough money to hire Johnny's former attorney to represent him in his attempt to evade the one-year sit out rule when he moved to OK.

Ah, then there's this...

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller projects him in fourth round of next year's draft.

Ohio may have its vengeance after all. Who else can easily imagine the Clowns trading up to take him? Manziel 2.0.

Anyway, it will give me something entertaining to do this football season, rooting for OK to fail every week. (Preferably at home.) Or, just wait around for his next drunken arrest or other creatively self-destructive act he can invent.

Reading all of this and realizing OSU ranks dead last in pass defense has filled me with a deep depression and sadness.

And there is still so much to play for this season but it just feels like it doesn't matter.

And it should.

Go Bucks!

Unless they unfuck themselves in the coming weeks, the pedster passing game is going to shred that secondary. Speith, I'm not as worried about.

I thought this originally as well but then I wonder, how often does their QB actually get the ball out quick? If he runs around long enough to heave his deep ball barrage, our DL will be a much bigger factor than it has been allowed to be so far with two quick release type QB's.

I didn't say I agree with how they celebrated. I said I don't care how they celebrated (because I'm not an OU alum or supporter). That's on them.

I care about why they were able to celebrate.
Yeah, it sucks that they had a reason to clebrate. That doesn't change the fact that it was classless and disrespectful to plant the flag on the block O. Especially when OSU didn't do anything disrespectful in Norman last year, other than win the game. In fact it was OU who disrespected OSU last year too when their nobody distant backup QB referred to OSU playing "basic" defense or whatever it was.

The Buckeyes singing the alma mater after the game wasn't disrespectful. They do that after every game. They did it Ssturday night. (Surely Mayfield noticed.) If they don't want visiting teams singing their alma mater in front of the home locker room, don't sit the visiting band in front of the home locker room.

I remember the ugly scenes from Mighigan State and Notre Dame a number of years ago when they got into brawls over flag planting by visiting teams. At the end of the John Cooper era and the start of the Jim Tressel era there was a thing between OSU and Wisconsin. I want to say it was dancing on midfield logos and that caused a scene. Maybe someone who remembers better can chime in. I think it was when Wisconsin came to Columbus in 2004 that Tressel instituted the postgame prayer circle at midfield and invited opposing players to join. That put a stop to that nonsense. As a non-believer I wasn't really comfortable with that but it was voluntary and fairly ecumenical -- if Nader Abdallah is okay with it then who am I to complain? -- and it was a brilliant solution to the problem.

So anyway, I don't really care. I do judge Baker Mayfield to be someone of lesser character, though. Wave the flag in front of your fans. Run around the field with it. Fine. Planting it at midfield is an overtly disrespectful act. The Buckeyes showed a lot more class when they visited Norman.

Looks like what's "basic" is our offense.

As for the "disrespectful" stuff I guess it just doesn't bother me. Then again, I don't lose my shit over guys kneeling for the national anthem. I can't control how other people behave, so I'll focus my energy on what I can control - how I react to their behavior, for example. People do that sort of stuff for attention. I see no reason to give it to them. Take care of your own business, and it'll be less likely to happen. Teams don't dance on your logo after you kick their asses.

Cool...fuck Baker Mayfield. I won't lose sleep over it, but it was classless and I lost a lot of respect for him. We sing Carmen Ohio every game, win or lose, home or away. He had premeditated that whole thing and knew better, yet still did it. That canned bullshit speech does nothing to change it.

Actually, for me, it makes it worse. Why don't you just own it, asshole? No, you'd rather insult everyone's intelligence by pretending you're sorry about it now. Right. Will crack open a bottle of Asti the day he gets his--sooner rather than later, preferably. Putting one in the 'frig to chill right now.

I'll probably bust out a 6 pack of Zima just to match the bitch-level that is Baker Mayfield, but otherwise we're on the same page.

Just one comment: We got our butts kicked and it didn't effect the outcome of the game; but I thought that the officiating totally sucked. Several calls where changed and/or overturned on replay, some of the calls were just bad, and some (what I thought was) obvious holding calls on their OL wasn't called.
