Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

A lot to process after a couple days in Cleveland. First off, great crowd here and I'm having a blast in Cleveland. Really great city and I've enjoyed downtown a lot. The first couple rounds could not have been more enjoyable. The next round was pretty good as well, except Moore. But everything that we could have done wrong when it mattered, we did wrong. We had a serious chance to execute and we choked. By the time we hit 184, I hate to say it...but nobody almost even cared because the wind was out of the sails for a long time. I hate that, because Myles has had an amazing year and tournament. But we just got devastated in the second session today and no way around it. A bunch of smug asshole PSU fans (and btw, the PSU wrestling fans are quite literally the worst I've ever dealt with here, they were awful) are gloating and it's not fun to watch.

Huge letdown and no way around it. Now I'm just trying to root on our guys individually and hope they can finish well. But hey, it happens. Proud of how our guys have handled this with class and I wouldn't trade this team for anything. Go Bucks!

Just some perspective folks. In 2015 when they won it all OSU scored exactly 102 points and had 5 all Americans. That was a great team effort - the best in OSU history up to that point. Right now they are sitting at 109.5 points. They will surely get more starting today at 11am. They will finish with 8 all Americans and have a shot to score more points than half of the teams that have won the NCAA in the last 20 years. This is the best team OSU has ever fielded. Let that sink in for a second. Tom Ryan for all the criticism he gets from the wrestling community has elevated the program to levels not seen before. Next year they will rebuild/maybe reload but it will be a year where expectations are lower and I am looking forward to seeing what the new crop of OSU wrestlers bring to the table. At the same time none of our red-shirts really distinguished themselves this year and that is usually a predictor of 1st year performance. We'll need to be patient with the team in 2018-2019.

Some areas to improve on next year... gotta get better at mat wrestling. It's such a crucial part of college wrestling. The catch and release style is a product of a freestyle mentality, probably influenced by the number of guys in the room that are also training with ORTC. There needs to be a full on commitment to all three phases of wrestling if the team wants to take that next step. Weight management and conditioning are essential parts of this sport and I think we came up short on those again. Injuries probably played a part but every team is dealing with injuries right now so it can't be an excuse. Recruiting needs to keep pace with PSU which is a tough ask but it all starts there.

This has been a great team to follow. No matter the outcome today, enjoy it because this is a great group of kids. They are doing their best. They wanted this more than any of us fans wants it.

I'm not surprised at your experience with PSU fans. It's a loathsome, classless bunch of people to be around.

We CAN win. But we need a lot of breaks.
Neville from PSU has to lose now.
Hope Zain doesn’t get anything but a decision.
Hope chalk holds for Nolf, Joseph, and Hall (meaning they all lose)
Hope Martin figures out Nickal (hasn’t beaten him this year)
Hope Snyder beats a guy who outweighs him by 60 lbs.

Welp, there goes step 1. Nevills wins and the gap is 6. Asking Snyder to get any more than just a decision tonight will be tough. Have to hope for a Martin miracle.

The real problem is Cael's guys always seem to do best with the lights on.
