Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

It's the little things that make a difference. Nato only getting 4 points was huge. The kid he was wrestling is 26 years old & has been on a Mormon mission for 2 years without stepping foot on a mat. Pletcher did what we all expected, beat a kid he was supposed to beat. McKenna had a great match. His ride on Lee was the difference. Did not see that coming. Lee also made a tactical error releasing him in the 3rd. Hayes did as well as he could. That bow and arrow should be outlawed but you gotta give Zane credit - he just demolishes people. It doen't matter who he is facing. Micah was working for a pin but it just wasn't there. Campbell is lucky that score wasn't worse but this went as I thought it would. Bo wrestled the match I though he would. He did not shoot much at all he got caught in Hall's duck under when he started getting tired. Martin... all he has to do is stay off his back and that is a regular decision. He gave up points at the end of each period which is exactly what he did last year. Big turning point on that match. Moore... don't know what to think. He looked like he was gassed from the start. No motion at all. Sloppy shots and could not get out from bottom. I think the travel finally caught up with Kyle. He was not the same guy that has been dominating everyone. He was clearly gassed early. I didn't think Nevills had a chance to walk away on the losing end of a decision.

Very disappointing. The team needs to improve. This was not a great effort overall especially with Nolf out of the lineup. Get better and lets see what happens at B1G.

Your thoughts are identical to mine. Kuhn is a great kid but this should have been at least 5 points. The little things. If NaTo gets 5 points, then Snyder winning by a decision wins the dual. Luke won. I saw 4 points at 149 but I was hoping Hayes would not give up more, but he did. The little things. McKenna was a big plus, he exceeded what we were looking for. Mic getting a tech means he got the job done, can't complain there.

BUT...Campbell gives up bonus and I think part of that is some BS calls, but he could have fended off that last score. Gave up bonus. The little things. Bo wrestled tough and again, the refs calling some bullshit stall dictated the match, but he did his job. Bo wins the match though, we win. The little things. Martin losing is fine, but bonus was just not ok given the situation. The little things. Then of course Moore losing...I never hope someone is hurt, but I hope Moore is hurt. Because that is the only explanation here. In no world should he have lost...even if he wins by decision, the dual is over. I really feel bad for Kollin because he will get undue blame given the point of the match. And there is zero and I mean ZERO question about the kid's heart. Give him the rest of the schedule off and I really hope he can be full go by March. Snyder got scored on a couple times only because he tried to force it given the need for a major. Really bummed he could not get the major but I get it.

In summary, absolutely bummed we did not win. I am pissed. But I see no reason we can't win the conference and the NCAA's. That is the real focus, not one dual on the road where the fans phone in the calls. Let's get there and if B1G's are bad, then I will get worried.

Bo felt so close at 174 to turning the tide on Hall at the end. We had so many small windows of opportunity, but we knew it was going to be tough, even without Nolf. I'm disappointed, but hopefully these guys get a little more of a taste for sweet payback in the B1G and NCAA's. We've seen signs all year that the Bucks aren't quite where they need to be to take out the Lions, but damn they're close.

Well... you guys can blame me. First time I've ever watched a collegiate wrestling match. Sorry, it won't happen again.

Keep watching my man, it is fun to watch. Your winters will seem shorter, this team is going nowhere under Ryan. But sorry this was the first match you watched, we under-performed big time.

Looking back, there were only 3 guys in my books who did what they needed to do for us to win. Pletcher, McKenna and M. Jordan. Pletcher was not going to get bonus but won the match. McKenna pulled out a win many didn't think he would. M. Jordan should have crushed his guy but he did it. NaTo should have had a tech or pin. Hayes should not have given up more than a major. Campbell should have held off the major. Bo...well, I guess maybe he is the 4th guy that did what he needed to because he damn near won it and you can't be upset on the effort there. Martin giving up bonus at the last second was a killer and should have never happened. Moore losing should never have been in the question. Snyder should have had a major at least and given the circumstances, I really though he would have had it. 8 point swing when you add those up, no shocker we lost.

Oh well, let's win those matches when it matters.

Tom Ryan said that Kyle needed a 12 point major to pull off the match and that they told him right before it started. That explains the urgency and the lateral attempt. He looked tired too - what mortal wouldn't be. Just too much came down to needing that 12 point win. Like you said any number of things happening in our favor locks it up. I have no earthy idea what happened to Kollin. He just looked really off. Martin and Campbell just mental lapses. Hayes not getting pinned was a shock and a small win. I don't know how anyone can holdup under Zane's top game. It's literally the chain wrestling version of submission moves. He has holes in his neutral game but I cannot remember another wrestler in the last 30 years that had that good of a top and bottom game.

Big dual against that team up north today, #4 ranked team in the country. Lots of big tests, here is how I see it:

125: Tomasello by MD over Mattin (OSU 4-0...I want to see NaTo tech or pin Mattin, Lee did...but Mattin is a good wrestler)
133: Pletcher by decision over Micic (OSU 7-0...if you are on upset alert, watch this one...Micic is tough to beat and Pletcher needed OT to do it last time)
141: McKenna by MD over Profaci (OSU 11-0)
149: Hayes by MD over Amine (OSU 15-0...Amine is pretty decent and this could be closer than most expect)
157: M. Jordan by decision over Pantaleo (OSU 18-0...Mic lost last time narrowly but I think he gets vengeance...this one could go either way though)
165: Massa by decision over Campbell (OSU 18-3...Mass is not wrestling well right now but neither is Campbell...would be a really big statement if Campbell could pull this off)
174: B. Jordan by decision over Amine (OSU 21-3...this one will be really tight and could go either way, but Bo usually has his number)
184: Martin by decision over Aboundader (OSU 24-3...again, tough matchup and another upset alert...could go either way but I like Myles)
197: Moore by decision over Beazley (OSU 27-3...Kollin could easily drop this match if he wrestles like he did against PSU...hope he bounces back though, he should win this one)
Hwt: Snyder by decision over Coon (OSU 30-3...could see bonus here but Coon is a monster and I look for him to slow down the match...#1 vs. #2, should be fun to watch...but I think by this match, we will have it in hand and Snyder can just focus on winning)

- 30-3? Maybe I am being overly optimistic, especially with this dual being on the road. But even if we throw a couple slight upsets their way (133/157/174) and take out some bonus, I think we still pull out the win by 10 points or more. Go Bucks and beat that God forsaken team up north.

Oh, by the way, it's live on ESPN2 at 6:00 ET tonight.

Fuck 'em up, Bucks!

Tomasello dominates the first match, 20-5. Bucks jump out 5-0.

Didn't know they had instant replay/coach's challenges in wrestling now. Taking several minutes to review the last 10 seconds of the match. :roll1:

Campbell must be showing something in the practice room, or at least consistently beating Burcher. He had a shot at winning today before the last UM takedown but I am wondering if that match against Valencia will even be enough to get him to the NCAAs.

Rough day for the Jordans, too.

Not really sure why both Bo and Myles were caught at the end. They had to know time was winding down and their opponents had no choice but to shoot.

Well, this is as bad as we could have looked today. We'll probably pull out the win but damn this is disappointing to watch. Pletcher was flat, Mic wasn't ready in the 1st, Campbell needs replaced by Burcher, and Bo just needed to try and ride out at the end, yet cuts him and loses. We always do this in February but damn it's frustrating.
