Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Yeah, I hadn't kept up with Suriano, but I see the transfer to Rutgers went through, so this is absolutely a year for Ohio State to make some noise against Sanderson and the Nits. Things look about equal on the recruiting front going forward, but they might still have a slight edge.

A lot of story-lines going on this year, but I'm just hoping it all comes together in the end. I'm still worried about Tomo cutting that weight and getting healthy...other than that, we look primed this year.

You don't see Romero being a 4-year starter at this spot starting next year? I'm hoping he's that kind of talent.

I think he's a 4 year starter, but the kid has a frame where he could be moving up. I could see him starting at 174 his RS Freshman year, then bumping up to 184 after Myles graduates. But yes, probably a 4 year starter.

Agreed, particularly with his injury, really tough to cut the weight injured. But for the overall roster, it greatly benefits us because he covers the only weak spot of our lineup and will at least take top 3 this year. I hope he wins it because that's a huge sacrifice.

WRESTLING PREVIEW: NO. 2 OHIO STATE VS. NO. 11 ARIZONA STATE

Seven Buckeyes won their weight class last weekend at the Princeton Open, with the starting lineup holding serve against preseason-type competition. On Sunday, however, they'll open the dual meet season hosting a half-dozen ranked opponents as a highly-ranked Arizona State squad invades St. John Arena.

Arizona State might not be one of the first teams you think of when you think of wrestling powerhouses, but don't sleep on the Sun Devils. Led by top-ranked Zahid Valencia, the Sun Devils opened their season on the road in Ann Arbor on Friday night, losing narrowly to the No. 4 Wolverines, 21-18.

The Sun Devils won four of 10 matches, but two of their wins came on forfeit or injury. Valencia earned a 4-2 decision over No. 4 Myles Amine at 174, and 157-pound Pac-12 champion Josh Shields notched a 4-3 decision over No. 7 Alec Pantaleo. Beyond that, it was all Maize and Blue, underscoring the strength of the Big Ten's wrestling programs.

BUCKEYE BREAKDOWN
Ohio State comes into the meet fresh off a solid performance at Princeton, fielding a bevy of ranked wrestlers with lofty goals and high expectations of themselves. Half of the lineup appears in FloWrestling's "pound-for-pound" Top 20 rankings: No. 1 Kyle Snyder, No. 7 Nathan Tomasello, No. 14 Bo Jordan, No. 16 Myles Martin and No. 20 Kollin Moore.

Sunday will mark the seventh dual between Ohio State and Arizona State since their first meeting in 1985. The Buckeyes own a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series, riding a four-match winning streak after dropping a pair of home contests to the Sun Devils in 1985 and 1990.

The dual will mark Kyle Snyder's return to collegiate action. The reigning Olympic and world champion, who sat out at Princeton, will open his season against No. 4 Tanner Hall. Over the past two years, Snyder's rarely been tested in NCAA competition, and with the type of international season he's had over the past six months, his performance should be a treat for the home crowd.

Circle the 174-pound bout on your program as perhaps the most exciting of the afternoon. No. 3 Bo Jordan will take on Valencia. The Sun Devil superstar not only earned a victory at Michigan, but upset reigning national champion Mark Hall of Penn State in the NWCA All-Star Classic on Nov. 9.

"I wanted to get the win bad because of last year," Valencia said, referencing his 4-3 loss to Hall in last year's NCAA semifinals. "I was out there knowing that I was prepared, that I did all the right things, so I was just making sure that I stayed focused on my technique and wrestled my match; go out there and let it fly."

Yikes. Micah drops one to the number 12 ranked guy, and could have lost it in the first period. I was hoping by moving up a class he would be able to get a little better on bottom but it is not the case so far.
Halfway through the match and OSU has looked a little off - maybe conditioning is not there yet. Micah came out on fire and then gassed pretty early. Two things... getting caught underneath hip pressure after a shot and wasting a lot of energy and inability to get out from bottom.

Yes. A couple of matches we have looked slower. But Martin looked good... and Campbell looked good too. Campbell almost got caught in the end but had the athleticism and strength to avoid it.

But Bo... just like Micah. Didn't look good.... though at least Bo's opponent is wrestling tough at this time.

Campbell looked awesome... he did almost get caught at the end but I really like the scoring from him. We'll need that out of him to challenge because he's in a really tough weight. Martin looked good as well. Solid performance. Valencia is tough and Bo had some of the same issues as last year with position from bottom and neutral. But no shame in losing that match. I'm glad Tom Ryan didn't play games with the lineup to protect seeds.

OHIO STATE WRESTLING INTRODUCES MIAMI-INSPIRED "PIN CHAIN"

The Buckeyes introduced the "pin chain" during their home opener against Arizona State on Sunday, with world heavyweight champion Kyle Snyder getting his hands on the chain – as you can see in the photo above – after pinning Arizona State's Austyn Harris.

Snyder's victory helped Ohio State defeat Arizona State, 31-12, to win its first dual meet of the year.

Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the match but looking over the results, it was mostly positive. 125 went as expected. Nice win for Luke at 133 over a quality opponent. McKenna gets it done at 141. Hayes has a really quality win at 149. Mic losing at 157 is very disappointing, but I'm confident he will adjust to the new weight and be fine. Campbell wins the gold star of the day at 165 for sure, he flat out destroyed an incredible opponent, what a debut for him. Not shocked Bo lost, Z. Valencia is on another level right now, wish it would have been closer though. Martin had a great win at 184. Kollin really beat up on his bye opponent. And Snyder did what was expected, wish we could have seen him wrestle Hall though.

Overall, good win over a very quality opponent early in the year. We typically have some struggles early on, so I'm encouraged with this result. We should only continue to improve.

I'm not sure how to feel about that Pin Chain. The U is doing the same thing for football and that's probably where something like that belongs.
