That was indeed brutal to listen to haha, still love JD though. My quick thoughts:125: I don't want to rag on Mead at all but it is pretty clear that we will transition from NaTo to Heinselman.
133: Naser gave Luke some trouble...Naser is a very good wrestler and pretty funky. Great win in OT, but I am hoping to see Luke keep improving.
141: McKenna rocking the Jordan Trained knee pad, love it. What I didn't love is that he didn't run back to the center of the mat after going off. He is a phenomenal wrestler and maybe this is the Graham coming out of me, but you run back to the center of the mat damnit. Saw some moments where I just didn't like how soft he wrestled, really want to see him be a much more physical wrestler. Should have tech falled or pinned his guy. But I am probably being overly critical here, the kid just came off an injury and he probably needs the benefit of the doubt coming off an injury. He is much better than he showed in this match and I don't know how healthy he is.
149: Hayes wrestled so well, very proud of that performance. He constantly attacked and got a well earned win over a very good wrestler. Needs to improve on top but great from neutral and bottom. Awesome match.
157: Couldn't excite more out of the gate, nor disappoint more in the end. Look, Mic is a true fighter and just wants to attack nonstop, he is the guy you love to watch because he is always on offense. He was in a dual where he just wanted to destroy his opponent and score points. He wrestles Shields later in the year and he beats him. Not worried in the slightest.
165: If Campbell wanted to do his best to endear Buckeye Nation, not sure how he tops that. What a match. I am beyond impressed with this kid. Incredible wrestling from his feet, dominant from the top position, and did what he needed to late from the bottom. That being said, I hope he teaches everyone on our team how to wrestle from the top because he is incredible from that position and it is a lost art, just amazing top wrestling. He just didn't ride on top and hang on for dear life, he made his opponent never want to try to get to his feet and just beat the ever-living piss out of him on top, you rarely see that anymore. Valencia is no joke and he flat out dominated him. Sky is the limit here.
174: After watching the match, it was much closer than it seemed in the score box. Bo was about 5 seconds away from turning the match on a takedown he should haven finished in the 2nd. Color me not concerned yet. Bo is fine and he wrestles the best in championship season, he is going to avenge this one. Go ahead and call me a Graham homer, but I just know this kid and he will do it. That being said, Valencia is just a freaking athlete and man, he will definitely be tough to beat. I think it will be a different match if they see each other again.
184: Martin looks great, moving along.
197: Bullshit move by ASU to not put out their 197 and have Tanner wrestle at heavy. I don't care if you can't win the dual, it is a bullshit move.
Hvy: Refer to the above. I wanted to see Snyder vs. Hall and knowing Tanner, I highly doubt that was his choice. Get them out there and let them wrestle. Tanner might be the #2 heavy in the country. I know it is an early season match but this is just seriously a bullshit move by the ASU coaches very disappointed in that decision.
- Overall: It is one dual and the score looks good. There were a few performances that looked great, some that were concerning. Overall, I think we will have a lot of fun watching this team. Go Bucks!
- Side note: Is anyone trying to go to watch the national championships? I just started looking for tickets to come home and holy smokes they are expensive. Any direction to an affordable scenario would be great.

WRESTLING RECAP: NO. 2 OHIO STATE DEFEATS KENT STATE AND CLEVELAND STATE IN THE THANKSGIVING THROWDOWN
After a dominant home opener versus then No. 11 Arizona State, the Buckeye wrestling team returned to action at St. John Arena in the second-annual Thanksgiving Throwdown, a unique tri-dual meet featuring in-state foes Kent State and Cleveland State.
For the Golden Flashes and Vikings, the trip back up I-71 was a long one, as Ohio State won both duals in convincing fashion, going 38-9 over Kent State and 43-3 over Cleveland State. The Buckeyes won 17 of 20 matches, including 14 bonus point victories.
The much-hyped Pin Chain, which made its debut at the Arizona State dual, was back again on the Ohio State sideline. Four Buckeyes earned the right to wear the motivational accessory, including reigning Olympic, World and NCAA champion Kyle Snyder, who has scored two victories by fall in as many matches.
In an unusual format, St. John Arena featured two mats with action running simultaneously through three "rounds" of competition.
With Ohio State the consensus No. 2 team in the country facing two unranked opponents, fans expected a show from the home team, and the Buckeyes delivered. Kent State fielded one ranked wrestler to Ohio State's eight; the higher-ranked starters all held serve, with four tech falls and two pins adding bonus points to the Ohio State box score.
Versus Cleveland State, the Buckeyes again had the more talented squad, fielding seven ranked starters - Kyle Snyder watched his younger brother Kevin take the heavyweight match - to the Vikings' one. The result was even more decisive, with four tech falls, two pins and two major decisions in nine victories.
BUCKEYE BREAKDOWN
125 POUNDS - BRAKAN MEAD
Mead faced a gargantuan task from the outset this season, stepping into the lineup for the injured Nathan Tomasello. The true freshman went 0-2 on the day, dropping a pair of decisions.
Mead was able to score a pair of takedowns in his first match, but Cleveland State's Cameron Lathem opened the bout with a takedown of his own, and added two more in the third period to seal the deal. In his second match, his points all came from escapes, and they weren't enough to earn the win.
133 POUNDS - LUKE PLETCHER
Last week Ohio State head coach Tom Ryan said he wanted to see more shots from his sophomore, and the first match of the night versus Kent State's Anthony Tutolo looked much like Pletcher's previous bouts. He scored the victory on a third-period escape and the riding time bonus, having ridden his opponent for more or less the entire second period.
The second match was a much different affair, however. Pletcher scored a pair of takedowns in the first two periods, and powered Cleveland State's redshirt junior Andrew Coghill to the mat, earning the pin at 4:12.

The Snyder brothers are an impressive - and imposing - pair. Most have heard of the elder Snyder, the reigning Olympic, World and NCAA champion, now in his senior campaign for the Buckeyes; freshman brother Kevin, though not a household name yet, is a talented wrestler in his own right, and both men earned bonus points Tuesday.
Kyle earned his second win by fall in as many matches, bringing out the Pin Chain again. Not known for pins in previous seasons, Snyder is a takedown artist who more often than not makes his NCAA opponents look silly, letting them up simply to put them back on the mat again, and again and again.
With the new Pin Chain on the line, it seems, Snyder is going for the fall in every match. After the Arizona State dual, he said that the need for bonus points this postseason is critical, as No. 1 Penn State is known for its five pin-happy national champions. When assistant coach J Jaggers came up with the homage to Miami Football's "turnover chain," Snyder answered the call.
"I wouldn't have gone for the pin if it wasn't for the Pin Chain," Snyder said after his pin versus the Sun Devils. "Penn State is really good, and we are really good, so it's going to come down to bonus points."
He pinned a taller, heavier opponent in Kent State's Devin Nye just 39 seconds into the second period, having scored five of his trademark takedowns in the first.
With Kyle doing color commentary for the BTN Plus live stream, Kevin stepped into the circle for the heavyweight bout versus Cleveland State's Collin Kelly. If you hadn't been paying attention, you might not have realized there were two different Snyders wrestling 285 for the Buckeyes, as Kevin put on a takedown clinic of his own.
In the first period, he added a pair of 4-point near falls to his opening takedown, ending the first period up 10-0. In the second, he added four more takedowns, allowing only escapes. Another takedown to open the final frame finished the match with a 20-5 tech fall, and the Buckeyes added another 5-point win to their total.

So I'm headed back home in March to go to the NCAA's in Cleveland with my dad, should be an amazing experience. Really excited to see it for the first time.
I also realize I needed some Ohio State wrestling gear to rock there and found some awesome stuff on the Rudis website. Rudis is owned by Jeff Jordan and Tommy Rowlands. They have some great stuff but I didn't realize they did Ohio State gear, highly recommend it if you're looking for OSU wrestling gear.

Enjoy the show! Hopefully the boys come out on top! The closest I will get it to see them versus UM this year.
And thanks for letting me know Jeff Jordan partially owns Rudis. Now I know to get OSU gear anywhere but there.

I'd say mostly positive... both Jordan's looked very good as did Myles. Moore seems to be dealing with either an injury or the weight cut is tough this year. Pletcher keeps winning close matches... the cut also seems to be impacting him as he is nowhere near being on his offense compared to last year. Campbell was workman like in his wins including one over White. Hayes gassed in the match he lost and almost got pinned at the end. I think the move to 149 is going to take time to adjust for him. The others were backups so no worries there. We don't have the depth yet to expect a backup to be competitive. Some interesting semi-final matches today.

5 in the finals and Pletcher starts it off with a 9-2 win. He got better as the tournament went on which seems to reinforce the idea that the cut is tough but the further away from weigh in's the results got better. Hayes with a nice win for 3rd. M. Jordan drops a decision to Pantaleo 10-2. Campbell lost a rematch to White for 3rd 4-1. Bo dropped a 9-6 decision to Valencia after being down 7-1. Martin over Abounader 8-5. Moore by fall over Haught. Bucks take the team title.

Buckeyes won the CK despite no NaTo, McKenna or Kyle Snyder...freaking incredible. Pletcher beats a very good Terao 9-2 (smokes him). Hayes gets a great win to take 3rd. Disappointing that Mic lost so bad at 157. Bummer for Campbell to lose at 165 to White. Same for Bo in getting whipped in his rematch with Valencia, looks like Valencia is just winning that weight. Myles with a fantastic win at 184. Kollin freaking PINS the #3 guy in the country. Great tourney overall. This team full strength is going to be fun to watch. We just beat the #3 team in the country by 15.5 points and 3 of our best wrestlers were not even wrestling. Let that sink in and yeah, we are going to be good.

Why the beef with Jeff Jordan? Clear loyalties aside, he has sent all 3 of his kids to OSU and they are all the quintessential examples of what you want a young man to be that wrestles for Ohio State. He has done so much for the sport and has been a strong supporter of our program. Love your contributions here in the wrestling forum, so it is an honest question.

For Bo and Micah to give up back points on the suck back move is unfortunate. The sit out and switch stuff just doesn't work against decent college wrestlers. Be fast at the start, get a base and get to your feet. Bo actually showed something in the 3rd this time. In these matches he is losing he's finding himself down 4,5,6 points in the 2nd period and it's like he wakes up and starts getting on his offense but it's too late.
