Oklahoma DT Dusty Dvoracek

While I think its wrong to dismiss him as a drunken loser, you should not get a medical redshirt when you consider the fact that this kid has been guilty of multiple assaults. There are tons of kids out there who play a few games and then go down with an injury, and do nothing wrong, and don't get any redshirts. So for this thug to get one it is absolutely sickening, especially in connection with the ridiculous amount of years given to Jason White.

Sorry for the repost, I didn't realize this was old news (I must have missed it before during finals).

This guy is a drunk. While he deserves to get rehab and get better, he does not deserve to get money from a college when that money can go to a person that never got into trouble. It's hilarious how liberal this board can be when it comes to giving second chances to FOOTBALL players. But on the political board, when the subject is about giving second chances to regular people, eh screw 'um.

Consider the fact that Mike D'Andrea probably wouldn't be issued an extra year (if he wanted one) and he was legitimately injured during the season. Mike D'Andrea, who has done nothing but stay eligible and work hard in practice gets injured and misses most of the season, but probably wouldn't qualify for another year.

Dvoracek has a serious history of violence to go along with his alcohol problem, yet he gets more eligibility?

if the guy has problems the last thing he needs is to be put in the situation that may have caused the problems...... The guy needs to get help with a therapist or something not to be playing football. Really don't understand the move by OU if you ask me.

I think putting him back on the team sends a wrong message, namely that athletes will get second chances that no one else will. Thousands of OSU students get completely shitfaced every weekend, but don't get arrested for assault or sex abuse. If someone can't handle their liquor, they should be man enough to realize this, and cut back accordingly. Did Jeff Smoker get an extra year at MSU for being a cokehead?

All that crap are symptoms of the disease. Hope the kid has bottomed out and will be OK. If not, he will screw up again and will be gone. Sounds like the NCAA did the right thing.

STX, it has NOTHING to do with being a man or anything rational. That is why it is classified as a disease. Think that you could "be a man" and just get rid of diabetes? Probably not, you would need to seek treatment. I hope that is what this kid does.

Hey dipshit, guess the AMA is one of the absurdities of todays world also...oh wait, you are the house doctorb. :drunks:

If you commit crimes due to being a drunk loser, you still get arrested. Being a whiny drunk doesn't give you an excuse to commit crimes, use up scholarship money.

Hey, Rasmish, he wasn't talking about whether or not his being a drunkard justified his actions, but rather your previous moronic comment that alcoholism isn't a recognized disease as is diabetes. And you supposed to be a doctor? You're a bigger quack than the AFLAC duck...

I can't belive alcoholism is considered a 'disease'. What a cop out. Name me ONE other disease in which the ONLY way to get it is to inflict it upon yourself. Calling alcoholism a 'disease' is a slap in the face to people with MS.

I have known people who were classified and 'diagnosed' as alcoholics. Two, to be precise, who completely quit drinking. How did they do it? "I made a conscious choice. I just said one day 'I need to stop drinking.' so I did." Some disease :roll2:.

Genetics plays a role in alcoholism. So does environmental factors. So does personal choice. I agree...it's stupid that drunk scumbags get to have a disease. Next thing you know, being a fucking obese lazy ass is also a disease. Oops...it already is. What a society we live in. so much for personal choice. :roll1:

http://www.healthtalk.ca/obesity_medicare_07172004_8110.php

The US Government says it will now recognize obesity as a disease, a move that will allow people suffering from obesity and related illnesses gain public funded access to treatments through Medicare.

"suffering from obesity" :slappy: How soon before "laziness" is a disease too?

Uh, I never said the two weren't classified as diseases. But equating a drunk with a diabetic is just stupid. And given your past comments about other matters, I'm figuring you think the same thing.

Wrong. They quit because they got tired of getting their ass kicked. They quit because the pain in their life became to great or they hit their bottom. No one quits because life is going great, the job is wonderful, the wife is really happy. You don't just wake up and say...you know, my life is really great but I am going to quit the booze. It is no choice, they have to or you will die. It is progressive and usually fatal disease.

I hope that is the case with this kid.

I said they made a choice to quit. How was I wrong? Of course there were REASONS they made a choice, but I didn't have to go into them. When did I say their lives were peaches and cream? Secondly, how do you know about them at all? Fuck, don't post if all you're going to do is make assumptions. Stop being a myopic assclown.

Look, I'll never consider any of these things diseases, they're excuses. Crutches of the weak of will. It's what we do in America. We pass the buck until the responsibility doesn't lie on our shoulders. "Well, I have a disease that makes me drink this alcohol." BULLSHIT. No one 'quits' having ADHD because it's a choice (that's another thing... is your kid a problem? stuff pills down his throat! That HAS to be the solution, don't be a good parent! Don't get me started). No one 'quits' having cancer. Don't want to be an alcoholic? Don't drink. Don't want to have Cerebral Palsy? Too bad.
