Oklahoma Sooners (official thread)

Not our finest moment, admittedly.

With that said, Ohio State S&P+ on defense: 38
Oklahoma S&P+ on defense: 77

Smaller is better here.
Let's break down the offensive rankings of each team we've played, shall we???

2018 Ohio State Football Schedule
Oregon State (Total: 61 Scoring: 91)
Rutgers (Total: 128 Scoring: 130)
TCU (Total: 93 Scoring: 97)
Penn State (Total: 47 Scoring: 29)
Indiana (Total: 54 Scoring: 88)
Minnesota (Total: 86 Scoring: 70)
Purdue (Total: 21 Scoring: 43)
Nebraska (Total: 26 Scoring: 60)
Michigan State (Total: 114 Scoring: 124)
Maryland (Total: 97 Scoring: 71)
Michigan (Total: 42 Scoring: 21)
Average Ranking (Total: 70 Scoring: 75)

2018 Oklahoma Football Schedule
Florida Atlantic (Total: 13 Scoring: 50)
UCLA (Total: 71 Scoring: 98)
Iowa State (Total: 101 Scoring: 83)
Army (Total: 80 Scoring: 56)
Baylor (Total: 37 Scoring: 73)
Texas (Total: 57 Scoring: 46)
TCU (Total: 93 Scoring: 97)
Kansas State (Total: 112 Scoring: 112)
Texas Tech (Total: 11 Scoring: 17)
Oklahoma State (Total: 10 Scoring: 14)
Kansas (Total: 110 Scoring: 107)
West Virginia (Total: 8 Scoring: 9)
Average Ranking (Total: 59 Scoring: 64)

The average ranked offense OU has faced (both total and scoring) rank 11 spots higher than Ohio State. So by default, neither of our teams have a defense that is all that impressive. But OU's offense is about to set the NCAA record for yards per play in a season (9.0) and OU is first in the nation in both total AND scoring.

So your point is that the S&P has a significantly larger divide than the mitigating factor you spent all that time digging up?
Cool story. Fail... but cool story.

Let's look at how Ohio State and Michigan played a similar, quality opponent in Penn State.

Ohio State - 1 point win
Michigan - Still scoring against them

Gee.....Michigan must be better than Ohio State. I hope we don't face them this year.

No, let's break down the compositional structure of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. Because it's equally relevant to this discussion and has the advantage of being intellectually engaging.

Damn...you know how to pick them. Although the 5th and 9th get significantly more play and the climax of the 9th is simply breathtaking when performed well, I will take the 7th on the whole all day and everyday.

I've always been rather fond of Wellington's Victory, which was a kind of prelude to the 7th... like an opening band.
I'm not sure it's really any better, but always been a fan of Wellington contrasted to the more lauded Napoleon (though if you ever get a chance, his mausoleum in Paris is amazing to behold and a great museum with WWI and WWII stuff attached).

More recently I've had this stuck in my head. Nothing like Beethoven, but I'm arbitrarily changing to military themes

I prefer the 7th as well but the 3rd is highly underrated

It is. And although many lookdown on all the even-numbered ines, the Pastoral is probably my 3rd favorite behind 7 and 9.

Look what you've done @MaxBuck ....I hope you're happy now.

Beethoven has been dead for 191 years. Why wait?
