Oklahoma Sooners (official thread)

Oklahoma is so angry over Lincoln Riley it might rename a highway after him

There are messy break-ups, and there's what happens when a coach abruptly leaves Oklahoma for USC.

Criticism of Lincoln Riley has been coming in from all corners of Oklahoma and beyond since he made the decision to leave the Sooners for a shot at reviving the Pac-12's premier program. Sooners fans, simply put, feel wronged.

That includes at least one in the state legislature. Oklahoma state senator Bill Coleman reacted to Riley's exit by requesting legislation that will turn 3 inches of the westbound lane on Oklahoma's State Highway 325 into the "Lincoln Riley Highway" as a way to "properly honor" the coach.

Coleman described the stretch as "the tiniest section of our most desolate of highways."

New Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables lands first commitment: ESPN 300 QB Nick Evers

Brent Venables got his first commitment as the new Oklahoma football coach on Monday when ESPN 300 quarterback Nick Evers committed to the Sooners.

Venables and his staff landed their second commitment of the day on Monday when ESPN 300 linebacker Kobie McKinzie committed to the Sooners.

McKinzie had been committed to Oklahoma, but decommitted on Nov. 28 and flipped his commitment to Texas. He is now flipping back to the Sooners with Venables as the head coach.

The Sooners had lost five commitments in the 2022 class since Riley left, including five-star defensive tackle Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy (who flipped to Texas A&M), linebacker Kobie McKinzie (who flipped to Texas), running back Raleek Brown (USC), defensive lineman Derrick Moore and offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter.

With Evers and McKinzie in the class, the new staff now has eight ESPN 300 commitments with only two days until the early signing period.

Is it me or do they have a "type" at QB? This kid looks just like the last couple douchenozzles at OU. I hope he's less of a punk on the field

He does look like them, maybe that's just a popular look with the kids these days? I don't know much about his attitude, but it does seem like his mother is pretty active on the Twitters, and has a pretty colorful way of describing the recruiting process:

Once Venables met with McKinzie in person, McKinzie said there was a stark contrast in the messages coming out of Norman and Austin.

“When (Venables) came to Lubbock, Texas had came the day before and their whole selling point to me was money,” McKinzie said. “Like that’s all they talked about in the meeting and that just didn’t sit right with me. I understand the opportunities money-wise there were amazing, but how do we change this football program?

“I’m going there to play football. That’s short money what NIL is, and I want to make long money to get what my main goal is and that’s the NFL. So Coach V came in and said I want you, I don’t need you. And that’s big picture for me. You want me but don’t need me? Okay I want to prove to you that I belong on this defense, that I can help this defense elevate.”

He's from LA. I wonder if he'll end up with Riley at USC.

Oklahoma football unveils Baker Mayfield's Heisman Park statue

I’m a Sooner for life and incredibly grateful for all of the success my teammates and I had at OU,” Mayfield said. “It’s humbling and surreal to think about having a statue in iconic Heisman Park. I can’t wait to be back in Norman and reunite with the most passionate fans in college football.”

Well, I'm pretty sure he's not going to be a "Brown for life".......

The entire Browns experience was nothing more than Karma paying him back for trying to plant a flag on turf.
