OL Connor Smith (official thread)

A few people are now saying he's a bit of a scUM lean. They brought in 6 OL this year compared to 2 for OSU. I hope that helps the depth chart for OSU. I also hope his dad plays a big role.

As far as position, I've heard OT and only OT. Of course he could move inside if you needed him to, but he's got the feet to play OT, and more importantly even LT.

Man, we need some parents really pulling for us. Smith and Wells at least have dads majorly in our corner with the kids not as much.

Rivals Premium

Connor is one going to be one of the top 3 OL and top 10 player in the state next year. He is currently 6-6 300 lbs. He was offered by OSU on Wednesday by Coach Tressel. Connor hints that it will probably be an OSU/UM battle for his services. He is attending the junior day this weekend and will not be commiting any time soon.

I am sure his dad will be a big influence in his decision...I hope :)

He is a dominating force on that line, could be a good one for next years class
I can totally respect his dad letting his son make his own decision. I think Pepper Johnson's parenting of Dionte is a great example of how to handle a situation with class while still leaving the decision up to the child. When Dionte asked Pepper where he would like for him to go, Pepper said he could go anywhere he wanted... except Michigan.

Now...add to that nastiness this little tidbit...

Connor's dad was an Academic All-American at OSU...his son is a good student and will qualify with flying colors...

I have waited a long time for a Colerain player to go to Columbus and make an impact...and I was sure Jefferson Kelly would do it. But injuries and a less then killer instinct did him in...But Connor is the goods...and I think he will be a Buckeye...gut feeling tells me so..

Agreed but why do I keep reading rumors that he is a scUM lean?? Even his Rivals article referenced earlier in the thread states that it will most likely be a OSU/scUM battle. I understand a dad letting his kid make his own decision but come on men, its scUM for crying out loud!!!

he is a scUM lean because Colerain camps, as a team, every summer up north. He has had a lot of interaction with the scUM coaches the last two summers. JT visited Connor two weeks ago at Colerain unannounced. I think that went a long way to narrowing the gap.
Make no pretenses about it...scUM will be in the running all the way to the finish line...but I think when it is all said and done he will be a Buckeye. I wish I could elaborate, but I know some Colerain fans read this board and I don't want to 'out' myself by giving out too much info.

Interesting that OSU is after two solid linemen in Boren and Smith.

Smith's Dad played for OSU and he is a Michigan lean.

Boren's Dad played for Michigan and he is an OSU lean.

If these kids draw out the decision it will make for a fascinating battle.

Excellent feet and agility for a big man. He buried Antwon Hight...

I'm very impressed.
I have to agree Grad....what stood out for me in the video was the fact he finishes his blocks.....10-15 yards down field.

He drove Antwon Hight 15 yards off the ball and he has a nasty streak. Its exactly what you love to see in a recruit.

Know for fact Coach Tressel had in home
visit with Conner Smith ol from Cinti Colerain in
last few days.
After he left Purdue Coach Joe Tiller made
visit and Carr and Mason are due to visit any day
now.
Jim Lachey raves about this kid and states
he is must get for tosu.
Conner's father is Joe Smith former Buckeye
ol in the 80's, I think in the end the bucks are the
one's to beat. His dad told him scum is not an option.
If i hear new info, i will keep board updated.

Reply New Post Conner Smith Talked to family member and they stated Coach
Tressel offered on Weds. and he was first junior
offered.
Connor has offers from TOSU, scum, psu, purdue,
wisc. and oklahoma.
At this time top two would be Tosu and scum,
with lean to TOSU since dad played for Bucks.
Will update as process goes forward with any
new info i get.

I want to believe that guy knows what he's talking about, but I'm pretty skeptical of guys who go on BN and do what they did - namely post the same "inside info" over and over and over...

I don't think this kid was the first junior offered either. Ever hear of a guy named Chris Wells?
