OL Darryl Baldwin (Official Thread)

TE at the next level? If he's got outside skills and has a frame that can hold 300+, slide him inside on the DL? Dunno, haven't seen him play... but if this young man is still growing and has good feet... heck, another big body with a Kill-the-QB mind frame on the DL and I'm a happy camper.

Either way, a Buckeye thru and thru! Welcome to the 43210!

Good get...his ranking is a tad low I believe...however, I do believe he has a lot to prove this year. He is a big kid, good frame, and massive potential but he needs to be dominant this year. I still love this commit though because I think Baldwin has the tools to be a good one. :osu:

Possible TE move is what is rumored. Area of need.

We'll have three TEs on scholarship when he arrives--Stoneburner, DiLillo, and Fragel--and all three will be sophomores eligibility-wise. With as little as we currently use our TEs, I wouldn't say it's an area of need.

Yep. Next year is a deep year for TE too...

Solon's Baldwin picks Ohio State

Monday, July 20, 2009 Tim Warsinskey
Plain Dealer Reporter

Solon defensive end Darryl Baldwin gathered his teammates Sunday afternoon and made the call.
To whom?
Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel.
Baldwin, a 6-6?, 265-pound senior, gave Tressel an oral commitment to play for the Buckeyes after graduating in 2010.
He also considered Penn State, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Michigan.
"It was real important to have his teammates there with him when he made the call," Solon coach Jim McQuaide said. "He decided Ohio State was the right place. One of the main reasons was he felt most comfortable there, and they've been on him the longest, since he was a sophomore. There's some familiarity, and the family can see him play. He's an Ohio guy and he had a great relationship with coach [Taver] Johnson and coach Tressel."
There has been speculation that Baldwin will play tight end.
"Right now, he's a defensive end. Everybody also liked how he plays at tight end, but if you asked Darryl, he would tell you he's a defensive end," McQuaide said.
Baldwin was not available for comment.

I think a lot of the TE talk suggests that he could end up there if he doesn't develop, since he really doesn't have the HS statistics typical of a great collegiate player. However, his raw potential is undeniable and coupled with his great personality and versatility he was an obvious offer.

Hopefully he can develop into a better DE, because with the right skill set he could really be a beast.
