STILL GOT IT. Not every loud noise heard this weekend was a colorful sky explosion. Some were from Ohio State's largest son proving he can still dunk like a little kid on a Nerf rim.



The dunk is money, obviously, but the fact that the regular-sized human in the video is trailing Dawand tells me that all 360 pounds of Big Thanos probably broke that poor lad's ankles a few seconds earlier. Now, *THAT* is what I want to see on tape.

Austin Ward: Dawand Jones will block three field goals for Buckeyes
Originally viewed as a raw, long-term project, Dawand Jones bullied his way out of a redshirt season by finding a way to generate value elsewhere for the Buckeyes. Yes, Jones was ahead of schedule in his development as a blocker and looks like a potential NFL tackle. But it was the way he used his massive frame to both collapse the field-goal protection and get hands up to challenge the kicks that sparked an idea for the coaching staff that using Jones as a true freshman was more useful than saving a season of eligibility. Jones isn’t likely to win a starting job on the offensive line, but he can again be an absolute force on the field-goal block unit.

Is that bold or just "click baity"? It'd be bold to predict he'd block one. I'd be happy if Jones gets a good amount of reps on both sides of the OT line for experience.

Love to see him crash the line and get a big paw on a field goal/extra point. Concerning a post above, no, if Dawand was driving to the hoop, I'm certain I would think twice against taking the charge. Might not survive it. But his agility and footwork (big deals in basketball), should/could pay dividends as a tackle. Go Bucks!

DAWAND JONES, OT
It came as a surprise when Jones didn’t redshirt last season, and that decision continued to be second-guessed even this offseason. While it’s possible he could be one of Ohio State’s starting offensive tackles the next time the Buckeyes play a game, it’s also possible he could be forced to wait his turn behind Nicholas Petit-Frere and Paris Johnson Jr., which would put him in jeopardy of never getting his chance to start for Ohio State – or at least not until his senior year.

An additional year of eligibility, though, significantly improves his odds of eventually becoming a starter – and potentially a multi-year starter – on the Buckeyes’ offensive line. While Petit-Frere could technically now stay at Ohio State for four more years, too, that would be a surprise, as he’s more than talented enough to quickly emerge as an NFL prospect if he wins a starting job. Johnson will be a candidate to be a three-and-done player at Ohio State regardless of what happens this year.

There’s a chance Jones could start as soon as this winter, depending in part on whether Munford chooses to play or turn his focus to preparing for the NFL, and if that happens, Jones might never need to use that extra year of eligibility. But at a minimum, it should erase any regrets Ohio State might have had later about not redshirting him last year.

GIVE DAWAND THE BALL. All 6-foo-8, 375 pounds of Dawand Jones wants the ball in the end zone, and I think I speak for everyone here at Eleven Warriors we could not be more on board.



I'm going to go on record as saying if he doesn't get at least one touchdown reception during his entire stint in Columbus, I will seriously consider legal action against Ryan Day for depriving me of that #content opportunity.

First off, imagine the hapless linebacker or defensive back trying to cover him. Second, imagine the touchdown celebration...

WORLD'S LARGEST GUARD? Conventional football wisdom (and the 2009 film The Blindside) tells us that your freakishly large offensive linemen should play tackle.

I say to hell with convention. Put the goliath-sized human at guard.



It feels like a quarterback sneak behind all 6-foot-8, 375 pounds of Dawand Jones is just a free first down. But if I'm being honest, I think we should take it a step further and just line him up at quarterback instead.

Ryan Day, if you're reading this, I'd also settle for fullback. Thanks!

Just sayin': If Dawand is getting some time at guard, that might tell you who is starting at RT and how good Paris Johnson is looking. Anyway Ohio State should definitely have some good "depth" on the OL this year.

Dawand at guard could be really appealing in certain situations, particularly short yardage. That said, I think he's versatile enough to play there regularly and if we subscribe to the 6th best OL playing wherever and whenever needed, Dawand might fit that bill. But as mentioned, might in part speak to how good Paris looks at tackle.
