OL Malcolm Pridgeon (Official Thread)

just curious is this a "we got a spot lets use it on the Oline" or is this a sign "were not pleased with the OL dev"
If you think a guy can help you get the five best OL possible on the field and you feel you have a spot, you take him. Hard to say if they are not pleased with the development of guys like Lisle, Knox, etc. or if they just feel like Pridgeon is better right now. I lean towards the latter.

I don't see any of the currently committed OL switching to DL. Frankly I don't think DT depth as a huge concern despite the recruiting misses considering they redshirted five guys this past season who could all play inside. Cornell, Jones, Alabi, Landers and Hamilton. And they are adding Barrow and Bosa, who could be a combo guy, to go along with Thompson, Hill and Munger. They just need to develop the talent that they have at DT. And add a stud or two like Hansard to go with Cage for '17.

You either think Pridgeon can help right away or you don't. Only reason to take a JUCO guy. They didn't bring in Larry Grant to sit and develop, although it ended up taking him a year to get ready to be a full-time starter. You are on an accelerated timeline as a JUCO recruit.

This move/development may indicate 1 or more current-roster young OL are projected to move on/xfer-out.
I love adding a JUCO when you lose so many starters. Adds someone with real post-h.s. experience that should be in the mix early.

Would love to land JUCO King for DT as well - he sounds hungry to make an impact day1.

If he signs it just strengthens my thought about Billy Price moving to DT. I would love an O line of: Pridgeon, Jones, Elflein, Knox, Prince. Oh yeah! Sets up nicely for the LT spot to be manned by any of Pridgeon, Prince, the big UT dude and the big NJ dude to play until Kraemer gets here. (Sorry big dudes, can't recall your names--Bowen? Feder?)

Question(not knocking Pridgeon at all): but would we rather have a Juco kind than the kids currently on the roster who were also highly rated? I was very intrigued to see Jones as a starter at RT and a battle of Lisle and Knox for the RG to infuse some youth and hunger into the lineup. There's also a comraderie among the guys who've been in the same class or within a class of one another, all the stars in the world don't cover up chemistry

Valid point but I assumed the staff would only bring him in if he was a big enough stud to start right away. And that is either due to his skills or the current roster on the OL not being quite there as a whole. This is a transition season anyway so I welcome competition and see who can stick. Look at Lisle, he has already been eclipsed a little by Prince and they are what- 2 classes apart? I'm not falling in love with a (potential) new signee just looking at 3 starters on the line moving on and looking at potential of putting the best 5 on the field. Regardless, the competition will be fierce in the OL group and the whole team in general. Given that........mat drills for everyone and see which pup is gonna bite.

That's where I'm at. And Malcolm is very highly rated in the JUCO ratings, he's even a 5 star on Scout. Obviously the staff is high on him but it seems like most are. I think he competes to start right away but even if he jumps into the two deep and provides depth and competition, then I say he's worth taking.
