OL Matthew Burrell (transfer to Sam Houston St. Bearkats)

Billy Price mentions Burrell(also Knox) as not being able to balance the on the field with the off the field "extra curricular activities" in Columbus. That's always been the wildcard with me when it comes to recruits (no matter how highly rated). Being away from home, learning how to manage your time, discipline yourself with all of the distractions in the world, and keep your nose clean in an era of social media. I hope he(and other members of the 2015 class) has had his fill of the nightlife, and watches as kids that he's played with are now going to play on Sundays(if they're not there already) and sees the opportunity that he has. It's once in a lifetime and you can't have a do over

I was very high on Matt coming out of high school. He has some serious mobility and wheels for a big man. I thought he would have a great career here. Sounds like the "extra high street" activities have slowed him down. Hopefully he realized he has an incredible opportunity and takes advantage of it. He still has time to be very good.

Those "extra High street activities" doom many young football players... But he certainly does have some time to make up for it(but that time is starting to run out)

Sorry to see him go, but not much of a surprise. Barring injury Burrell may have never seen the field in meaningful minutes. Go somewhere else, sit a year and get on the field with 2yrs to play. I'm sure a number of D1 schools would welcome him with open arms. Get on the field, get your degree and hopefully it leads to the NFL

Unfortunately he has already burnt his RS. If he stays at this division his year of sitting will be his junior year with one left to play.

MATTHEW BURRELL ANNOUNCES DECISION TO TRANSFER FROM OHIO STATE

92581_h.jpg

"Being a buckeye is a once in a lifetime opportunity on the field and off. That being said, and after prayer and thought, I will be transferring from OSU," Burrell wrote in an Instagram post. "I am not certain where I will end up but I am looking forward to whatever God has planned for me. To my teammates past and present, I believe in each of you and can't wait to see the records you set."

Re: With Burrell's transfer, Ohio State is now at 87 scholarships for the 2018 season. The Buckeyes will need at least two more players to transfer from the program to get down to the 85-man limit.

Probably not the last player to transfer before fall.
