Michael Jordan signs with Bengals, lands $488K signing bonus

Former Ohio State offensive lineman Michael Jordan signed a four-year, $3,008,392 contract with the Cincinnati Bengals this week, which included a signing bonus of $488,392. (Information per spotrac.com.)
The 6-foot-6, 312-pound Jordan was selected in the fourth round (No. 136 overall) by the Bengals in the NFL Draft in Nashville last month.
Jordan started for the Buckeyes as a true freshman at left guard in 2016. He became the first true frosh to start on OSU's O-line from day one since Hall-of-Famer Orlando Pace in 1994.
Jordan also started at left guard for OSU in 2017 as a sophomore, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors by the coaches and media.
In 2018, Jordan moved to center for the Buckeyes, and was named first-team All-American by Sports Illustrated, and second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. However, he was "only" second-team All-Big Ten as a junior according to the coaches and the media.
Following the '18 season, Jordan decided to turn pro early after starting all 41 games in his Buckeye career.

Taking out the signing bonus still leaves him at $2,520,000 for four years, or $630,000 per year. After his agent's 10% and Uncle Sam's ridiculous cut, he'll take home around $370,000 a year. That should get him a nice home and car--paid off up front--along with a nice chunk to invest.

Rookie Michael Jordan might be the unexpected answer to the Cincinnati Bengals’ big problem at left guard.
Jordan isn’t the first name to come to mind when thinking about potential replacements at guard in the wake of Clint Boling announcing his retirement Monday.
But offensive line coach Jim Turner hasn’t forgotten the Ohio State product.
“(Jordan is) the extra guy you really weren’t planning on but now that Clint’s gone, Mike is in the conversation as well,” Turner said, per the team’s site.
On paper, the job at left guard figures to go to Christian Westerman or new arrival John Jerry.
But indeed, it’s best to remember Jordan — the Bengals traded up for him in the fourth round. A lifelong Bengals fan, Jordan checked in at a monstrous 6 feet 6 and 312 pounds, and seems to boast starter upside.
Granted, that upside didn’t figure to come into play so soon. But the timetable has accelerated with Boling gone and first-round tackle Jonah Williams lost for the season.
While Jordan might not end up starting as a rookie, it speaks volumes that coaches are pointing him out in mid-July as a name to remember as they look to replace their best offensive lineman.

I always laughed when ESPN had him strictly listed as a C. I knew the Bengals 100% had every intention of moving him back to guard. I’m sure most FO’s that showed interest had the same thought. He performed admirably at C last season for Ohio State, but he is an absolute monster at G. Looking forward to watching him and Price progress this season.

Michael Jordan, Damion Willis and Auden Tate get starts for Bengals on Thursday

The potential next wave of Cincinnati Bengals will get a sooner-than-expected audition Thursday night against the New York Giants.
Undrafted wideout Damion Willis will start in place of A.J. Green and Auden Tate will line up in John Ross’ spot, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer. And at left guard, Michael Jordan will make his second consecutive start.
This would appear to have droves of impact on the roster outlook. With a good performance, Jordan — a rookie and lifelong Bengals fan— would likely secure the starting job.
And at wideout, Willis moving ahead of Josh Malone at Green’s spot would seem to indicate Malone could be on his way out. Fellow undrafted Stanley Morgan is out with an injury, so the fact it is Willis and the big playmaker Tate getting the start in the third preseason game speaks volumes about how the new coaching staff feels about the situation.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway? This new Bengals staff isn’t shy about competitions and rewarding the winners. The young guys are clearly stepping up and have another chance to do so Thursday night.
