OL Orlando Pace (7-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, CFB HOF, NFL HOF)

From Dispatch article: "OSU also boasts five hall of fame coaches (Howard Jones, John Wilce, Francis Schmidt, Woody Hayes and Bruce) and three assistants (Ernie Godfrey, Sid Gillman and Doyt Perry)."

Actually Ohio State did had another Hall Of Fame head coach (1940-1943), however, he is enshrined in Canton (NFL).

Surgery for Pace
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
09/23/2007

For Orlando Pace, the Rams' perennial Pro Bowler at left tackle, the long road back to the playing field began Thursday in Texas. Pace underwent surgery to repair injuries to the rotator cuff and labrum of his right shoulder at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. Dr. Walt Lowe performed the surgery.

Pace is due back in St. Louis on Monday. The expected recovery time for the surgery is six to eight months, which would take Pace into April. Pace suffered the injury blocking late in the first half of the Rams' regular-season opener Sept. 9 against Carolina.

A local radio station here in Nashville did an interview with Coach Cooper a couple days ago that I thought was very interesting, so i figured I would try to share what I remembered. They started out by asking him about tOSU, because he covers a lot of their games as part of the masters coach poll that he is a member of. What really surprised me about the whole interview was how he constantly referred to tOSU as "our team", or "we do .. really well". He didnt sound like a coach that had been fired 5 or 6 years ago, he sounded like a coach who still worked for the program. He had nothing but really good things to say about tOSU, and JT in general, I dont know why this surprised me so much, I just thought he wouldnt have that much vested interest in the program now that all the kids he recruited and coached are gone. He mentioned the office that JT gave him, and Earl Bruce, I guess maybe this is partially to thank for keeping Cooper involved, but I think overall it shows that even though it was Coopers time to go, he is still a class act, and a buckeye at heart.

You know, something amazed me about a comment Cooper made on Buckeye Blitz a few weeks ago (Post-Northwestern game).

"If the Michigan running back can run the ball 40 times, then Chris Wells can too."

Okay, first off, handing the ball to Wells 40 times is a terrible idea with his bum ankle. But, if you ignore how terrible of a coaching decision that would be...

Is that the first time Cooper ever treated Michigan like it is, well, Michigan? In the 7th season post his dismissal, did he finally get it? Did he finally get that Ohio State - Michigan was actually a big deal?

Oh I think he got it 10 of 13 times that the Bucks faced them with him at the helm.

This begs the question what seven wins was Cooper missing? I think the seven wins he was missing were the wins against tSUN and in bowl games. With any seven of those Cooper is in the hall of fame for sure.

Yeah, I think those seven games ought to do it ...

Here is 7 more wins that he could of had:

I was surprised to see Cooper had 7 losses to freaken Illinois. Overall he had a losing record to them (6-7). Illinois had some good quarterbacks during that time; but I don't think they really had an overall better team.

Pace dismisses retirement talk
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
10/26/2007

Sept. 9, 2007-- Rams left tackle Orlando Pace leaves the playing field during a game between the Rams and the Carolina Panthers.
(Chris Lee /P-D)

Is he retiring? Everybody in his family has asked. Several of his friends, too.

It's a fair enough question. Orlando Pace has been in the NFL for 11 seasons. He turns 32 on Nov. 4. But now he has suffered season-ending injuries two years in a row.

So ... ?

"I'm going to come back and play," Pace told the Post-Dispatch. "I will play. Initially, (retirement) crosses your mind. You think, 'Man, I can't go through another year like this.'"

But like many players, Pace wants to leave the game on his own terms. In fact, he's adamant about it.

"I have a lot of pride in wanting to do that," Pace said. "I've done a lot of good things in the league, and I want to continue to do more. I don't want to have an injury force me out, or somebody else telling me: 'You can't play anymore.'

"So that's the one thing that really drives me, and that's going to drive me to play another couple years, hopefully

ISU football: ex-Buckeye Cooper to speak at clinic

Former Ohio State coach John Cooper, an Iowa State graduate, will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 ISU Football Clinic, April 3-5, in Ames.

Cooper, who led the Buckeyes to three Big Ten championships and Arizona State to a Pac-10 title, played football at Iowa State from 1959-62 and was a member of the "dirty thirty" team.

Injury update
By Bill Coats
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
02/12/2008

Defensive lineman Adam Carriker, who suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder in the final game of the season and underwent surgery, will be sidelined until training camp. But most of the rest of the Rams regulars whose seasons ended prematurely because of injuries are expected to participate in some, if not all, of the spring workouts.

That includes three starters on the offensive line: tackle Orlando Pace (shoulder), guard Mark Setterstrom (knee) and center Richie Incognito (knee).

Scott Linehan reported that Incognito is almost completely recovered. He said that Pace had regained about 80 percent of his strength and that Setterstrom was at about 75 or 80 percent.
