Ohio State football: Bathroom break costs Rehring playing time

by Doug Lesmerises Tuesday October 07, 2008, 4:23 PM

Steve Rehring took about 12 snaps at right tackle on Saturday in his return from injury, but the senior missed some more planned playing time on the offensive line.
For the most part, the starting line - Alex Boone, Jim Cordle, Mike Brewster, Ben Person and Bryant Browning - was out there together, but Rehring should have played more, which, presumably, would have sent Person to the bench more often.
"Rehring only got in a dozen or so plays and I'll have you ask him why it was - he missed an 11-play drive. He had to go to the restroom," Tressel said. "And so he probably would have played closer to half of the time, but he missed an 11 and then he missed like a 10 (play drive.)"
I still think Boone-Cordle-Brewster with Rehring at right tackle and Browning at right guard has a chance to be Ohio State's best line.

Otherwise, it sounded like Tressel thought the line was about average.
"I think every time Mike Brewster plays in a game, he's going to get better. He had a couple (missed assignments) near the end of the game, that if those weren't (missed assignments), he may have graded winning, he's getting that close.

Ohio State football: Finding a fit for Rehring

by Doug Lesmerises Thursday October 16, 2008, 9:30 AM

Steve Rehring played right guard, right tackle and left tackle against Purdue, and at each position the Boilermaker opposite him made plays.

APHere's a blast from the past: Marcus Freeman, left, Todd Boeckman and Steve Rehring at OSU's signing day news conference on Feb. 4, 2004. Rehring has grown a bit since then and is trying to settle back in to the offensive line now.

At guard, he was shoved so far into the backfield on one play, he destroyed Terrelle Pryor's run lane for the option, forcing Pryor to cut back the opposite direction as the play disintegrated.

At left tackle, filling in when Alex Boone departed the game briefly, Rehring was beaten with a speed rush by Alex Magee, as the Boilermakers forced Pryor to step up and eventually take a sack.
On the next play, at right tackle, Ryan Kerrigan blew by Rehring like he wasn't there and sacked Pryor again.

This is not from my mouth because I wasn't watching Steve that much yesterday but Rob Hartley on a local postgame show said that he really needed to step up his game based on his performance yesterday.

Departing seniors were asked about their experience at tOSU.

Steve Rehring

Offensive lineman

West Chester, Ohio | Age: 23

Parting thought: "You think about tradition; you think about all the people who played before you. Just the privilege to be a part of this program, this organization. To have coach (Jim) Tressel as a coach is incredible, and coach (Jim) Bollman -- they're great coaches, plus they're great people. So that really helps in your experience here and gets you ready for the real world."
