OL Wyatt Davis (2-Time 1st Team All-American)

DAN: OSU WILL FEATURE THE TWO BEST INTERIOR OFFENSIVE LINEMEN IN CFB

It isn’t a bold prediction to say that Wyatt Davis will be the best interior offensive lineman in college football, given that he was already an All-American last year. As good as Davis is, though, I think Josh Myers gets overshadowed for just how good he is, too, and I think Myers will prove he’s the best center in the nation this year and become Ohio State’s third Rimington Trophy winner since 2016 while earning his own tree in Buckeye Grove.

Kevin Wilson on Wyatt Davis: “He's one of the juice guys of the offense. He plays very hard, he plays very tough, but he brings a lot of energy ... When it's time to stand in front our team and talk as a player ... he's one of the best at articulating the way we want to play.”

Big fella was very beat up in MSU game... multiple times...
If it wasn't THE GAME... I'd let him sit one out and heal...
Would consider pushing Wray inside and letting Wyatt heal

I’m sure that he wouldn’t sit if he was able to go... even if the coaches tried to sit him.

That said, I did think about this scenario. What we don’t know, or maybe we do and I’ve not seen it reported, is how many of the players who were not available for MSU were sat out due to contact tracing and how many were actually confirmed. If it’s the case that we get any of the top-three OTs back this week, I could see this being a possibility. Not necessarily for the full game, but more a matter of pull him when you can because we have the depth.

Either way, hoping the big guy is healthy for Saturday and this is a non-issue.

Wyatt Davis good to go for Buckeyes next game

In the second half of the blowout win against Michigan State, Buckeyes All-American guard Wyatt Davis slowly trotted off the field with what appeared to be a knee injury. And with an offensive line that was already decimated last week, an injury to Davis was the last thing Day and Ohio State needed to see.

But if they play this week, the Buckeyes expect to have a healthy Wyatt Davis.

“I will be all good,” he said. “I’ll be playing this week, and I’ve been getting a bunch of treatment. I’ll be ready to go this week.”

The injury was a scary sight for Davis, who came back to Ohio State despite a high draft grade after last season before opting out and opting back in once the season was back in October. But now, he’s good to go for a championship run.

“There were a bunch of things that were floating through my mind during that moment, but I knew that I’d be able to bounce back from it,” he said. “We have a great training staff here at Ohio State, so I’ve just been getting treatment religiously, and there’s no doubt in my mind that I’m ready and I’m playing.”

SKULL SESSION: RECRUITING RANKINGS MATTER, FUN FACTS ABOUT OHIO STATE'S 2021 CLASS, AND WYATT DAVIS SHARES HIS GRANDFATHER'S LEGACY

LIKE CAPTAIN, LIKE CAPTAIN.
Ohio State captain Wyatt Davis has some captain's blood in his veins as his grandfather Willie Davis was a defensive captain on the legendary Dick Lombardi's Green Bay Packers team.

Willie was a huge influence on Wyatt's life, and part of why Wyatt is team a captain himself these days.

“As far as being aggressive, that’s just something I’ve always been, even at a young age,” Davis said. “My grandpa would play very physical. I would look at the old videos of him playing and he was a very physical player. He was playing the game the way it should be played now, physically tough and hitting hard. I just try to emulate that.”

Willie Davis, who passed away eight months ago, played a key role in his grandson’s life and his football game.

“He was a huge influence,” Wyatt said. “He was always around, especially when I was younger, with both me and my brother. He was like a second dad. He really drove us. He gave us the fighting spirit to attack everything at full velocity. He used to tell us that if we were going to do something, we should do it 100%. I feel like that attitude had a lot to do with why he was so successful. I really enjoyed spending time with my grandpa.”

With Willie playing for Lombardi, that also means winning championship runs in the family, as well. So I'd say Wyatt is going to make him proud this weekend.
