Canada’s Top Prospect, 2020 TE Theo Johnson, Includes Ohio State In Top Group
Windsor, Ontario (Holy Names High School) tight end Theo Johnson released his top seven late Thursday and night and included Ohio State in his top group. Joining the Buckeyes were Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, Iowa, and Miami.
Johnson (6-6 240) is the No. 3 tight end in the 2020 recruiting class per the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 232 player in the class overall and the No. 1 prospect in Canada.
Johnson visited Ohio State back in the spring, which came a couple of days after competing at The Opening regional in Ohio where he ran a 4.67 40-yard dash and posted a 35.2″ vertical leap.
Penn State is the current Crystal Ball leader will all three projections pointing at the Nittany Lions.
Johnson has an official visit scheduled for Iowa this June. Given the fact that the Hawkeyes just put two tight ends into the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnson’s interest in Iowa makes quite a bit of sense. He visited Iowa City back in the spring as well.
Johnson also visited Georgia and Penn State twice this spring.
An All-Canadian selection last season, Johnson plays quite a bit of wide receiver for his Holy Names team and his highlights show him as the recipient of many 50/50 passes from his quarterback. He overmatches defenders, but also has the body control and athleticism to do something after coming down with those jump balls.
