Football: We've received numerous inquiries about both photo day and OSU football practices this fall. Many of you want to know what, if anything, is open to the public. We just received official word from Ohio State that no practices are open to the public and that photo day is also not open to the public.

I think it is to keep down any qb debates down and that is smart. This young team doesn't need distractions.

Shoot, I went to a few practices and started the qb debate that went on for months. And they were 3rd and 4th string then. Just think how heated it would get this time.

That, and I think looking at the early schedule... I think there might be some very 'creative' gameplans being prepared in respect to preparing for 'nati, NCSU and the 'herd.... (and this would relate to QB play, in the sense that it might be hard to get a good grip on time... Is it going to be Zwick 90% and Troy 10% or is it going to be 51%-49%).

Besides... The less D'Antonio knows, the better.... Same goes for D.

I would imagine that is at least partially true on both fronts (DK's reports, and the QB battle). Personally I am of the school of thought that if that is what coach thinks is best for the team then that is good enough for me. I am sure some of the people on the general disc board would disagree, and say it is their right

 :pissed:

I think another factor is the number of fans who are hounding players for autographs before and after practice. There is really no reason to close the first few practice sessions from a game prep perspective - those are pretty generic.

Still, I think it sucks. You get so much more of a feel for what the players individually are capable of from practice than games.

I can see closing the practices, but good lord throw us a bone. At least photo day could be open to the public.

Beat me to it. Isn't the very point of photo day to give fans a chance to take pics of the players? Pretty damn hard to do that when you can't get into the f**kin' practice...

Closed practices are a result of the ebay playbook scandal a few years ago, people were diagraming everything and selling it on ebay when teams used to have almost all of their practices open.

As for the no picture day, thats gay, I can remember as a child how cool it was to go see them get yoru picture taken and autographs. The coolest part was getting to meet your favorite players and guys that you thought were up and comers would talk to you forever cuz they too were lloving the whole thing.
