Ordering Online: Airline Tickets

america west or southwest are going to be your best bet to phx... just go to their websites and see which one is cheaper... they will be cheaper than any of the "search" sites (because the search sites look for Delta, United, American, etc.)...

Yep.

It just depends on your dates and how flexible you are.
I spent some time this weekend booking a flight for my mother from Tucson to New Orleans over Easter.
Cheapest flight = Continental $288.
Cheapest flight without crazy 5:00AM departures = Continental $295.

I also just booked my next trip to Vegas.
One guy took Southwest his flight is $380.
I took Continental with better times again and my flight is $400. I also got automatic upgrade to first class. That is the exact same flight I took a couple of weeks ago, with the same lead time, and my last tickect cost me $300.

In truth I think all the sites use one of two search engines. Southwest is not on those engines. You are probably looking at a $50 difference.

nola,

Out of Columbus southwest is dirt cheap... round trip is $89 each way... after taxes/fee's/etc. the total is $198.40... good luck beating that.

Keep in mind if you don't do a nonstop flight the fair cost more. They charge an extra fee for each time the plane lands on a the tarmak (sp?). Try to book the nonstop flights.

cmh to phx is actually the same price as the above listed vegas flight... under $200.00 round trip!!! (If you book when phx is a "special destination" it is even cheaper!!!).

On America West I found a round trip for $178 (not sure if that includes taxes or not).

From cmh to phx those two will be your best bet hands down...

No $89 one way fairs fares in and out of NOLA on SW or any other airline.
Cheapest was $159 one way out at 5:00AM.
Must have sometime to do with supply and demand or the popularity.

I've made some sales calls in CMH. Seems to me the flights were fairly reasonable.

Lets not forget to mention the fine quality of seat companion you get to experience with SW. America West used to be a partner with Continental, may still be. To say their planes were old and poorly maintained would be giving them too much credit.

I get your point. I did my research and found a good price for my mom's travel and a great deal for my next trip. Most of the time I run orbitz but go straight to Continental.

Southwest offers great on-line super-saver fares, but they are only available Tuesday thru Thursday. Also the lowest rates are not available every day of the week. I can't remember the cheapest travel days, but I think it may be Sun, Tue-Thurs but don't quote me on that.

Edit:

I just checked and the $89 fares to Phoenix are available now and are valid for any day of the week but some flights are already full. I'm not certain about this, but isn't Havasu actually closer to Vegas than Phoenix?

I've been looking at fares to florida... to my surprise priceline.com had the cheapest tickets to West Palm Beach... using Delta of all airlines... it was about $50 less than southwest (mainly because southwests real cheap fares were all booked)....

I had reserved my mom's tickets but did not buy them.
When I brought the reservation back up it made me go through the process again. Cost now is $218. I was going to use my miles to get her in first class but no seats were available.

From an airline Captain with close to three decades in the airline industry. He says "I never really understood how airline ticket pricing worked until I read this analogy. Perhaps some of the airline pilots and passengers on your mailing list might also appreciate this."

Customer: Hi. How much is your paint?

Clerk: Well, sir, that all depends on quite a lot of things.

Customer: Can you give me a guess? Is there an average price?

Clerk: Our lowest price is $12 a gallon, and we have 60 different prices up to $200 a gallon.

Customer: What's the difference in the paint?

Clerk: Oh, there isn't any difference; it's all the same paint.

Customer: Well, then I'd like some of that $12 paint.

Clerk: When do you intend to use the paint?

Customer: I want to paint tomorrow. It's my day off.

Clerk: Sir, the paint for tomorrow is the $200 paint.

Customer: When would I have to paint to get the $12 paint?

Clerk: You would have to start very late at night in 21 days, or about 3 weeks. But you will have to agree to start painting before Friday of that week and continue painting until at least Sunday.

Customer: You've got to be *&%^#@* kidding!

Clerk: I'll check and see if we have any paint available.

Customer: You have shelves FULL of paint! I can see it!

Clerk: But it doesn't mean that we have paint available. We sell only a certain number of gallons on any given weekend. Oh, and by the way, the price per gallon just went to $16. We don't have any more $12 paint.

Customer: The price went up as we were talking?

Clerk: Yes, sir. We change the prices and rules hundreds of times a day, and since you haven't actually walked out of the store with your paint yet, we just decided to change. I suggest you purchase your paint as soon as possible. How many gallons do you want?

Customer: Well, maybe five gallons. Make that six, so I'll have enough.

Clerk: Oh no, sir, you can't do that. If you buy paint and don't use it, there are penalties and possible confiscation of the paint you already have. If you change any colors there is a $50.00 change fee, even if it is the same brand. Also, no refunds.

Customer: WHAT?

Clerk: We can sell enough paint to do your kitchen, bathroom, hall and north bedroom, but if you stop painting before you do the bedroom, you will lose your remaining gallons of paint.

Customer: What does it matter whether I use all the paint? I already paid you for it!

Clerk: We make plans based upon the idea that all our paint is used, every drop. If you don't, it causes us all sorts of problems.

Customer: This is crazy!! I suppose something terrible happens if I don't keep painting until after Saturday night!

Clerk: Oh yes! Every gallon you bought automatically becomes the $200 paint.

Customer: But what are all these, "Paint on sale from $12 a gallon", signs?

Clerk: Well that's for our budget paint. It only comes in half-gallons. One $6 half-gallon will do half a room. The second half-gallon to complete the room is $20. None of the cans have labels, some are empty and there are no refunds, even on the empty cans.

Customer: To hell with this! I'll buy what I need somewhere else!

Clerk: I don't think so, sir. You may be able to buy paint for your bathroom and bedrooms, and your kitchen and dining room from someone else, but you won't be able to paint your connecting hall and stairway from anyone but us. And I should point out, sir, that if you paint in only one direction, it will be $300 a gallon.

Customer: I thought your most expensive paint was $200!

Clerk: That's if you paint around the room to the point at which you started. A hallway is different.

Customer: And if I buy $200 paint for the hall, but only paint in one direction, you'll confiscate the remaining paint.

Clerk: Yes, and we'll charge you an extra use fee plus the difference on your next gallon of paint. But I believe you're getting it now, sir.

Customer: You're insane!

Clerk: We know you have choices, so thanks for painting with American!

Wow American is making it really hard to not punch them in the face. First I had >30K AA miles, "expire", and now I'm trying to book $15K worth of itineraries and I can't get them to give me consistent info/prices (aa.com vs customer service on phone). I'm trying to book through aa.com, but am ready to take my business to a 3rd party website. No wonder you're going bankrupt jackasses!

Anyone a travel agent?
