Orlas King "Neutron Man" passed away today

The Neutron Man was the greatest buckeye fan I have ever met. I've grown up a huge buckeye fan and it was always a treat to see him get up and dance. He will indeed be sorely missed.

As far as the band is concerned, I am not quite sure what to expect. The directors found out about 30 minutes before practice began and the news quickly spread throughout the band as we arrived at the band center. I would like to see a little something done for Saturday, but I wouldnn't really expect anything until the Indiana game. Tomorrow is gray day which mostly involves music checks and a runthrough of the shows. It is a little too late to be adding anything to the shows for saturday, both pregame and halftime are already quite lengthy as it is.

Dr. Woods mentioned the idea of possibly retiring the "Neutron Dance" from our repetoire, but nothing has been officially decided. I'll try and keep you guys posted on any plans that are made by the band.

Please, do keep us informed. I really hope Dr. Woods doesn't retire the song. I'd like to see the band continue to play it and see everyone get off their ass and dance for Orlas. Imagine what a tribute that would be for 105,000 of his best friends to get up and dance in his honor. That would rock!!!

Neutron Forever!!!

I am among those who would like to see the Neutron Dance retired now that Orlas is gone. I'd love to see a fitting tribute to the man including a last performance of the song. I don't want to see an imitator trying to take his place if the band were to continue performing the song.

Goodbye Neutron Man, you are a Buckeye Legend.

I didn't get to meet him, but he was only about 20 rows behind me at my first game. In a stadium as big as the shoe, it is amazing how 1 guy could stand out like that. He was great. My son was absolutely mesmerized by him. He will be missed by all Buckeye fans. Rest in peace Neutron Man.

Isn't it great how people can somehow come into your life, and you don't even know them and your are touched in some way or another.

Having only been to the "Shoe" 3 times, I must admit that i never heard of the man before and also i probably heard the OSUMB play "Neutron Man" but would not know, that this was the song pertaining to him. I think the word Tradition can safely be described as what The Ohio State University stands for and also what Orlis King Stood for. My first experience in the shoe was 1979 of the Iowa game. I cried as i heard Carmen play. Looking down into my Scarlett and Gray tam - I noticed the words to "Carmen" were emblazened into the silk lining of my tam. I cried even more. The tam was something similar to the won Neutron Man is wearing in some of the Pics in this thread.

Even when I am here in Florida on saturdays, I think of all you great and lucky fans who are worthy of attending the games, enjoying the beer and brats at the Tailgates... and cheering the Buckeyes to another Victory as you hear the Victory Bell in the southeast tower ring out its haunting peel.

Yeah I did not know Neutron Man very well but through all of these great posts i finally get to know him. I am truely saddend that this had to happen to such, was once a wonderful person and human being. I'm sure the spirit of him will live on inside all of us and we will carry on the Great Tradition of being called a Fan of the Great Ohio State Buckeyes. God Bless you "Neutron Man" You will be sadly missed but always be rememered in our hearts.

Thankfully this year I finally was upgraded from C Deck to get down to B Deck to see Neutron up close for the first time. I wish it wasn't the last time.

It is a simple choice really. You play Neutron Dance one more time and retire it. Or, when the Neutron Dance is played... the whole stadium gets up and dance.

God Bless

At the end of the third quarter. Like Florida's "We Are The Boys Of Old Florida". Only hopping and upbeat.

RIP Orlas.

Interesting discussion. I'd have to say that NO WAY should the song be retired. Orlas would want EVERYONE up and dancing and celebrating our Buckeye Spirit! I, of course, will be fine with whatever is decided, but I can't help but remember the Neutron Man as someone who wanted everyone up, excited and cheering on the Bucks. I think that retiring the song and the energy would be against everything Orlas brought to the Horseshoe.

As others have said, we should all get off our butts and dance, yell, and cheer for the Bucks ... that's paying tribute to the Neutron Man. He'll be missed.

I am in the camp that says that the song should be retired but not without the proper sendoff. The TBDBITL recording should be blasted through the stadium sound system at the end of the 3rd quarter this week in replacement of Sloopy this one time and get the band, Block O (this is the first game of the year for them this week), and the entire stadium to do whatever little jigs they want to come up with.

RIP, Orlas King, you were THE EPITOMY OF WHAT A BUCKEYE FAN SHOULD BE.

I really like this idea!!! Have the band play the song, show a video of Orlas doing the dance on the scoreboard, and have everyone join in! This could be a one time send-off then retire song or it could become a weekly stadium tradition. I hope the tradition lives on!
