OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I have no inside information with regard to this but I do not think that Holtmann is done with recruiting/transfers for the 2018 season. So hopefully, the roster with regards to new faces will look a little bit better than it does currently.

Yes. In addition to Chris expressly wanting to add another player as grad transfer for next year, you also have to keep in mind that there are always guys who transfer or leave unexpectedly for whatever reason. Not saying it will happen, but it is a fact of life in CBB that there are regular "early" departures everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple more additions for next season when it's all said and done.

It seems quite obvious that we are going to need a graduate transfer PG. CJ will be the only one on the roster next year. We are going to need someone to fill the Dakich role. It would have been nice to get a PG in the 2018 class but it's crucial to get a solid one in 2019 because they will need to play right away.

Im sure we will have a larger pick of the litter this time around, and after what he has done with Dackich I fully have faith in whoever coach decides to bring in.

Yeah, bringing in a known quantity who is a good, solid all-around guard will be a priority. You don't want to have just one proven 3-point shooter on your team, with as notorious as it is for freshmen struggling from 3. Plus they could use another strong defensive guard in addition to the guys they already have.

Do not forget about guys that might be "transferring" from schools that might be feeling the heat of the FBI/NCAA "investigation". The only bad thing about that is the NCAA moves at a snails pace so certain players might not be "transferring" as quickly as we need to make some decisions regarding a possible graduate transfer.
If we're considering transfers from schools caught up in the FBI investigation, we need to be damn sure that the transfer isn't the reason for said investigation.

We really need a "Thad 5" recruiting class badly. I feel Gaffney is a must have at this point. I'm scared we are looking at a 2-3 year rebuilding process after this year. Unless Muhammad or LeDee turn into studs right away, we have Kaleb and then we pray Jallow takes off

Disagree.

Obviously I'd love to land Gaffney, but Jallow has demonstrated terrific potential; he just needs more experience. Kaleb Wesson will be solid. And Muhammad is a can't miss. I don't expect championships necessarily in the next couple of years, but we should be a solid NCAA Tournament qualifier.

You better pray the FBI doesn't pay Holtmann a visit if he ever pulls in that kind of class in this this climate. I don't ever see him recruiting at that level unless the FBI investigation completely alters the landscape of college basketball recruiting.

the thad 5 was lightning in a bottle. i doubt that will happen again. and as great as the thad 5 was, that team still needed a miracle to make it past the second round.

i have little doubt that the 2019 class will be good and that we'll be pleased. gaffney is looking better and better by the week. i think we're in a great spot for carton and may end up being the favored pick after a visit. we'll know a lot more by july if not earlier.

I do not think that many Ohio State basketballniks will just be satisfied with being a solid qualifier. Jallow will certainly help down the road and I expect our recruiting class for 2019 will be very good..Muhammed will help next season but we need some scorers.

The biggest problem the Buckeyes had this year was size at the Guard position. CJ as 6-2, Kam 6-2 and Dak at 6-1 and that was exploited big time by PSU. They have bigger guards coming in next year with Muhammad, Ahrens and Washington, plus Musa will be a year in the system. I think they will be stronger in the backcourt overall. However, they need to get more athletic and physical as well. I don't expect next years team to be this years as far as record and production but if Coach can bring in a strong 2019 class, then things look good down the road. The next two recruiting classes are crucial for the Buckeyes basketball program.
