OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

so possible departures by 2020: jallow, ahrens, young, gaffney, muhammad, washington, carton, and kaleb. why in the world did you stop there? why not add liddell and diallo? or what about walker? definitely going to be a grad transfer prospect. heck, if we sign morton this fall, maybe he'll transfer before the season starts.

we get it. transfers will happen here. they happen everywhere. no use worrying about every player leaving town by 2020-21 when we're not even a month removed from 2018-19.

I got into thinking about 2020 recruiting and went down the rabbit hole, I guess. Since we now have only two scholarship spots and Holtmann claims he doesn't want to max out a roster, you are looking at something like a 1-man 2020 class, unless attrition happens. And unless more than one guy leaves, we might be looking at a 2-man class. Forget I started throwing out names because that wasn't the point and I was just thinking out loud about how basically anyone could leave.

A point I forgot: with adding Diallo, I don't think Holtmann can really even try to worry too much about positional needs or what have you for the 2020 class, he has to just get the best 1-2 guys he can get. Center might still be something of a priority but not enough so that you take a center over a player you like better.

really curious twitter "follow" of admon gilder by pedon. gilder is a 6'4" guard from texas a&m (by way of dallas) who announced he would be a grad transfer a week after buzz williams was hired. sat out last season due to injury. very good all-around player. shoots well, defends well, distributes well, and rebounds well for a guard.

i don't at all expect that we're going to use that last scholarship even if it's by way of a grad transfer. coached recently implied that we'd be finished with one more 2019 player unless the other was a conventional transfer (i.e., sit one, play two/three). gilder is not a conventional transfer. moreover, our roster congestion at the 2 and 3 does not indicate an attractive landing spot for a guy who averaged over 30 minutes the last two seasons. even if we were interested in him, i doubt he'd be all that interested in us.

i don't think anything will come of this and it's probably just a fart in the wind, but it's curious nevertheless.

I'd take one of the Hauser brothers transferring from Marquette now (Sam preferred...pretty sure he's essentially a 6'8" stretch 4?). Anyway, just a surprise transfer for MU after Howard said he's returning. Doubt any impact on the Bucks.

edit- busy day, should read the other forum first

satisfies most of what we're looking for from a backcourt player in the 2020 class: guard with length, ballhandling, playmaking, and defense. rugged size is what's lacking in comparison to a player like timberlake. would have far fewer concerns about the 2021 point guard position with wood in the program, though. that's probably the major selling point for ho1tmann. if carton skidaddles after two, it's wood's team to run his second year.

Surprised more big names are not involved with him after watching the video that you posted. Love his length.

with wood de-committing from tulane just last month and with the aau season just starting, my guess is more big names will soon start popping up. then again, he was committed to tulane for only a couple months, and it's not as though duke/unc/uk/ku/etc. offered before january. and with wood being a dc kid who initially announced for a new orleans program, a midwestern school like osu should not at all be at a disadvantage coming in late.

hope the staff prioritizes him. with our needs both in 2020 and beyond, wood is a square peg in a square hole. if you're going to miss out on zeb jackson, then elijah would be a fine consolation. i like him more than morton.

Seems like we could become a player for Keon Johnson now:

https://vanderbilt.rivals.com/news/where-does-vanderbilt-stand-with-keon-johnson

"Keon Johnson was a top 2020 priority for Bryce Drew. So how can Jerry Stackhouse keep Vanderbilt in the hunt? Johnson said keep Jake Diebler. If not, he said they would have to start over."

For those of you who don't know, Keon Johnson is a T35 6'5 SG in the 2020 class. Tennessee might be the leader, but based on Barnes' recent comments about how he would be in LA if UCLA had picked up his buy-out and given that Keon seems to have a great relationship with Diebler, there might be just enough room for us to get our foot in the door if we're inclined to try.

just about the most fluid attacker you're ever going to find. tailor-made for isolation sets and tie games with seconds left. whoever gets him is almost certainly getting a one-and-done player. major pro talent.
