OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I think Keon could be more like 2-and-done because while he's a very, very good athlete I don't think he has elite explosion on his first step. As such, he needs to continue to refine his outside shot to keep his lane open.

He's rated 32 in the 247 Composite. That's typically a 2 or 3-year player. Obviously every situation is different and I do think Keon has the tools to make the first round of the draft sooner than later, I'm just not sure he'd get the exact feedback he wanted after just one college season unless he shot the ball well.

He is definitely a phenomenal slasher, the likes of which we haven't seen at OSU since... I mean, I can't even think of a recent comparison as far as a lengthy wing guard goes. Senior Lighty, finally healthy and finally having learned to stop traveling on his drives? Every once in a blue-moon Sam Thompson would flash a spin move or something and you'd be like "where'd that come from, because as far as I can tell in 4 years you hadn't improved your ballhandling since HS."

I am trying not to think of Keon as a possibility. Probably too late in the game for us and Tenn seems to have the inside track. But boy would he pair nice with Liddell and Gaffney.

just about the most fluid attacker you're ever going to find. tailor-made for isolation sets and tie games with seconds left. whoever gets him is almost certainly getting a one-and-done player. major pro talent.

I suppose we could make room for him. Jokes aside, He looks incredible. He is ranked 32 and Clark is ranked 57 but the difference is quite stark.

I am of the opinion we take a big in 2020 (Hugley, Loveday, a human) and then take swings at high ranked wings such as Johnson, Morton, or Clark. If we end up with just one in the class that is fine.

sit one, play three. played at prolific prep (diallo, burnett, harvey).

Long list of schools reaching to potential transfer Jordan Brown

Last week the Nevada freshman power forward put his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. While there’s still a chance he’ll stay in Reno, this allows him to gauge the interest of other college programs, something his father said was going to happen regardless of who the coach was.

“We’ve had Kentucky reach out, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Baylor, Miami, Pitt, Ohio State, Louisiana-Lafayette, my old college,” the elder Brown said. “St. Mary’s, there’s quite a few people reaching out.”

continued...

Anyways, based on the recent visits to Hugley, Dawson Garcia, and now Mr. Dainja, certainly seems like adding Diallo has done nothing to curtail the staff's pursuit of a big in the 2020 class.

All in all it seems like they are still sticking to the earlier plan of trying to add 3 in the 2020 class--a CG, a wing, and a big--despite us only having two scholarships currently on paper and despite Holtmann's recent comments about not maxing out his eligible roster.

I was going to start a thread for Hugley that I read the tweet that they are visiting Dainja which makes me wonder how highly Hugley is rated by the staff. I have not seen much video on him but what I have seen it the he shows decent skills around the basket offensively but that is all I see. I guess we shall see how greatly impresses the staff during the Spring/Summer camps. Currently, Dainja is more highly rated and I think getting Dawson is a pipe dream. Just not sure about Hugley.

I understand it's just highlight video, and I don't claim to be a great judge of basketball talent, but the difference between Hugley and Dainja appears pretty stark to my eyes. Dainja shows really good body control, a decent shooting stroke and some serious bad attitude when he's cleaning the glass. Hugley looks like a nice HS big man, but at this point not a lot more.

We're in the top ten for T150 6'8 F Justin Lewis.

Lewis is a fine player but I kind of think we're just a name on a list for him. Don't think we've been super involved there and it wouldn't make a ton of sense for him or us to bring him in the class immediately after EJ & Zo.

2020 recruiting is extremely wide open without any clear direction, but my early money is on hugley being offered and ultimately becoming a buckeye. otherwise, keeping it in-state, i like mo njie and his rate of progress. solid length and good feet. will be one to watch this aau season. i could see him blowing up.

edit: for njie to go from averaging 2 points two seasons ago to the footwork he has now is damn impressive. once he gets to the point of developing a 15-footer, which will come, look out. really, really liking his game.

brooks will be a senior next season, so he'd be a sit-one, play-one transfer. he's originally from philly, so i don't think osu's location gives us an advantage. and with the expectation still being that kaleb will be here for the 2020 season, i don't think osu will look all that appealing to a true center who will want more than 10 minutes per game.
