OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Pursuing Brown and Walton like this while waiting on Moody really makes it seem to me like the staff is recruiting for two spots. Can't imagine they'd be doing this if they thought they were only taking one in the fall with the need for a big of some sort.

I'm finding it hard to get invested in the recruiting for this cycle. Not a lot of space or need on paper right now except for probably some interior help if Kaleb's gone, and the two guys who we have the best shot at for that are Zed Key and Zach Loveday, neither of which probably move the needle a lot as frosh.

perhaps what baffles me more than anything is that the staff hasn't cast a wider net for post players. from the outside looking in, it looks like they've recruited as though there is little cause for concern regarding the 2020-21 frontcourt. if kaleb leaves after landing a two-player class consisting of a wing and a post, we can't go after a grad transfer center unless there is further attrition. how confident should we be with diallo and loveday/key at center? if diallo redshirts, we're looking at two guys who have never played a minute of college. we'll be a final four contender from the 1 through the 4... and probably a bubble team at the 5.

all of the above is why i'd much rather see the staff sign only a post player this fall and save kaleb's scholarship for a grad transfer post player this spring if the situation presents itself. why we're pressing for a wing after keon johnson said no is beyond me. as i've said before, it's almost as if the staff is expecting another potteresque transfer this fall. i know the belief is that the staff is preparing for kaleb to depart early, but i absolutely hate oversigning because it will create a very ugly situation if kaleb (and everyone else) decides to stay.

edit: feel like i should emphasize that the most important phrase in my post is "from the outside looking in." will continue trusting ho1tmann's recruiting until given a reason not to.

Apparently the OSU staff expects multiple frontcourt departures after the upcoming season. So perhaps Kaleb and Alonzo are both planning to turn pro. I am never one to handwring about scholarships because most top programs that recruit players that could turn pro are oversigning, and often guys will leave "early" without becoming bonafide NBA prospects. Plus there are very low odds of not having at least one transfer out due to lack of PT when you had 12 vying for minutes. Having 13+ projected players on scholarship immediately after the spring departures is rare. More likely they will end up with an extra spot(s) to fill in the spring than be oversigned.

Don't like that Gaffney wants to leave before even playing a college game
