OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Well Wertz and Burton are the top of that board and are technically sit one play two guys right now, and both would have been looking at a lead guard starting spot once Walker's gone. But Luther leaving does open up more minutes for next season, too, in the likely event the sit one gets nixed. One wonders if Luther thinks we are getting one of the transfer guards, extra fuel for his leaving.

So now two scholarships open. It seems to me that the team needs at least one guard who can play immediately, especially the PG spot. Whether transfer guards can play right away may determine whether they need one guard or two. If they get a guard who can play right away, then for sure they could have room for a grad transfer big also - that would be ideal. If yet another spot opens somehow, then they could still be looking to add 3 more players to the team - which underscores how stupid it was for people to wring their hands about Holt oversigning by 1 in the first place. Yeah, they were over by 1 ... before they lost 4 players "unexpectedly". This is college basketball - you basically have to bring in 4 or more guys every year now. Historically the plan Holt that had to add just 2 or 3 a year was adequate, but nowadays you just cant count on players to stay four years for many reasons.

osu's official twitter account just followed jimmy sotos. for what it's worth, he's the only followed account among the current transfer prospects.

the challenge for osu is that sotos is a sit-one, play-one transfer. if you're going to use a scholarship on a player that has to sit for a season, you'd prefer that the player has at least a couple seasons of eligibility remaining. on the other hand, perhaps it's assumed that sotos will be granted a waiver or that the ncaa will grant everyone waivers.

I feel like in this day and age, college hoops programs need to recruit with an expectation that they will need to bring in at least four players every single season. Maybe more than 4 in some years, obviously. This offseason is a shining example of how much turnover there is in college hoops - right now you have five departures from OSU, with just one due to graduation.

Sotos is a very solid player. He would be the perfect guy to add if he were eligible next season.

Wish I was more familiar with Bucknell because I am wondering how Sotos went from 6 apg as a soph to half that as a junior. I guess he had less weapons to distribute to last season and he needed to take more of a scoring role?

Sotos does look to me like a player that can help, though, the eligibility thing is just kind of tricky since we don't know what the NCAA is going to do.

I thought we could skate by next season with CJ, Duane, and Luther and just hope they all stay healthy but now I feel like we really need to add another guard of some sort who we know will be eligible next season. Brown and Jallow can help defensively against guards but are not ballhandlers and Brown will be a frosh and Jallow coming off injury and hasn't been healthy for a year, basically.

CJ and Duane are both going to play a ridiculous amount of minutes next season unless Holt can bring in some help for them.
