OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Clearly he plays on a bad team and clearly he has a lot of work to do on his own game. But just from those descriptions Phillips sounded a bit Amir Williams-y whereas Clayton sounds more like the type of frontcourt player this staff has primarily targeted: mobile and with offensive skills that allow him to operate outside of the low-post.

no offense to any player about to be listed, but if you're ohio state and you follow up diallo and key with clayton, your interior recruiting should receive no better than a c- grade. i'm not talking about the pure power forwards like young or liddell. i'm talking about the kind of players you recruit to defend a true center.

now clayton might turn out to be a fine college player, but that's beside the point. ho1tmann and johnson need to start producing on the recruiting trail like they're representing ohio state -- not butler.

Clayton is marginal MAC at very best.

Let me be clear that I am in no way saying OSU should be offering Clayton any time soon. Just that it sounds like he is growing and developing and a good fit for what this staff seems to want in the frontcourt. So they are keeping tabs on him, as are other high majors.

The report on Phillips, meanwhile, was not encouraging at all. Again, reminded me a lot of reading the HS scouting reports on Amir back in the day. Got the size and theoretically the ability but doesn't deliver consistently. Hopefully it was just rust or a bad day.

kinda think the interest from both sides is serious. not sure how the recruiting dead period being extended until at least september comes into play, though. no "smoke" or so-called intel. just think this one's an interesting fit for at least a couple reasons.

obviously still assuming that branham is at the top of osu's board.

Be nice to get some type of feel for which way Branham is leaning

the 5-star of all 5-stars, emoni bates, has committed to michigan state.

years down the road, you just know they'll try to claim him as a spartan despite him never playing as a spartan.

edit: like we do with lebron.
Kid is the next Kevin Durant.

And let's not kid ourselves. We all know James, despite claims made more than a decade ago, would have gone to Duke or UNC.
