OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis, No. 22 scorer in college basketball history, to enter transfer portal

Detroit guard Antoine Davis, one of the top scorers in the history of college basketball, on Thursday said he's entering the transfer portal.

"After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal," Davis posted to Twitter. "I will always remember the University of Detroit Mercy and what it has done for me. I wouldn't be in this position without the University giving me an opportunity as a student-athlete. I was honored to be a Titan and play in the Horizon League against great players and coaches, and I loved every second of being coached by my dad and brother.

Well, this guy is a "scoring machine". I wonder if he is interested in Ohio State.

Antoine Davis transfer: Breaking down best fits for historic scorer from Detroit Mercy

Ohio State: Malaki Branham is off to the NBA, Meechie Johnson Jr. hit the transfer portal and veterans like Cedric Russell, Jimmy Sotos, Justin Ahrens and Jamari Wheeler are also leaving. So yeah, Ohio State’s backcourt could use some juice. Davis can absolutely provide the shot-making that Ohio State desperately needs. The Buckeyes have the No. 5-rated recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Top-60 guards like Bruce Thornton, Brice Sensabaugh and Roddy Gayle Jr. all figure to play big roles. But Davis would instantly be the most talented guard on the roster. He’d mesh really well with Justice Sueing too because Sueing can defend the best opposing guard.

Ohio State: If Chris Holtmann was sitting down with Hunter, he’d flip on the tape and show him what he’s done with Duane Washington Jr. and Malaki Branham in back-to-back years. Hunter has the talent to play in the NBA soon, and Ohio State ushered both Washington and Branham to that point with sky-high usage rates. Holtmann put the ball in his best player’s hands and tailored everything offensively around it. That’s a unique trait from a coach that some just don’t have.

Some information/photos as to who (including OSU commit George Washington III) is on the All-Ohio Red teams

We have photos of players from the All-Ohio Red 17-U, 16-U and 15-U teams below. After playing in the first leg of the Nike EYBL April 8-10 in Orlando, the program hosted the All-Ohio Nike Cup tournament this past weekend at Fieldhouse USA at the Polaris Mall north of Columbus.

The All-Ohio 17-U team (2023 graduates, current high school juniors) picked up a new player this year with Ohio State verbal commitment George Washington III. The 6-3 Washington played this school year at Christian Academy of Louisville. With his father, George, taking a job as an assistant coach with the University of Dayton women’s basketball program, the Washington family will be relocating to Ohio for the 2022-23 school year.

Washington is joined on that 17-U team by three other players who have Ohio State offers. That group includes Pickerington Central forward Devin Royal (6-7), Columbus Africentric forward Dailyn Swain (6-7) and Huber Heights Wayne guard Lawrent Rice (6-3). (Stay tuned for the latest update on Washington and Royal.)

Others on the team include Toledo Central Catholic guard Chico Johnson, Oakwood wing Will Maxwell and Columbus Beechcroft forward Amani Lyles.

An attorney for Miami-based Life Wallet announced that Nijel Pack will be making 800k in NIL for 2 seasons at Miami.

NIL and free transfers should work out fine for OSU football. But it could be a pretty bad thing for OSU basketball.

Fansided tells it like it is....Ohio State was just "OUTBID" for Nijel Pack:

Ohio State basketball loses transfer for not offering a car

Pack is getting a two-year $800,000 NIL deal to go to Miami. Not only is he getting that large amount of money, but he is also getting a car. Pack was clearly swayed by all of the extra things that Miami was willing to offer that Ohio State and some other programs were not.

Chris Holtmann and the rest of the Ohio State basketball program weren’t willing to put a package together like that, so Pack decided to go elsewhere. I can’t really blame him for wanting something like that, especially now that it’s legal for boosters to offer something like this.

Just sayin': College recruiting is now all about the money.

Coaches and the university cannot be involved in paying players. They can make them aware of opportunities.
