OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I like Turner and think he would be an excellent fit, he is long and athletic, but looks likes like he is giong to go to Illinois and make them have one fantastic class in 08.

I really like Turner also, very athletic player. It looks like at this point he may be heading towards Illinois but there is a possiblity that may not happen.

As for Tyus, I don't really have an opinion yet. I don't think he would have any problem matching up defensivly against a 3 but don't think he has the offensive skill set. Now this has just been derived from me watching a 2 minute highlight video of him dunking the ball, but there was nothing off the dribble and not sure if he has the handles to play a wing position.

Like you, I have not seen Tyus play except for the recent film. I do know that he has stated tOSU is recruiting him as a 3, so they must feel he has the ability to play there.

Also I really hope that Buford can join that class in 08 along with Roe, I think Gates is going to go to Cincy.

Buford will be a top target in the 2008 class but I think Roe has seperated himself from the pack and is obviously the top target in the class at this point. Gates is an interesting situation, by all accounts, the depth at tOSU is an issue, not sure if this issue will go away considering the current depth at the PF spot and incoming recruits.

Another thing I would love to see us get involved with Chris Wright in the 07 class but that is a pipe dream.

Chris Wright is a very good prospect, I would have to agree that our chances of landing him are not good at the moment, but then again, don't count out Matta. When your hot.....your hot.

Same thing with Mayo, if he starts menitioning us in some interviews, I might start to start drinking that kool-aid, but until then I am not even thinking of the possibility.

Mayo's recruitment has only begun, it will be a long process. Things can change in the recruiting world, but I would be shocked if he even considers tOSU.

With the recent addition of Madsen that closes the books on 2006 class.

The 2007 class is getting interesting with Diebler, Koufos and Lauderdale already in the fold. It seems that the top 2 remaining targets are Evan Turner and Alex Tyus. Its possible that this last spot in this class could be taken in the next month. My money is on Tyus if he does indeed revisit tOSU with his family. Adding either one of these two prospects would assure Ohio State of a second consecutive top 5 class in my opinion.

My personal opinion on the following targets for the 2007 class:

Joshua Southern (with Lauderdale in the fold, highly unlikely at this point)
Demetri McCamey (have offered but our chances are slim)
Solomon Alibi (see Southern)
Aaron Pogue (academics are a concern and doesn't fit Matta's system)
Chris Wright (longshot at best)
Dante Jackson (Still hoping for an offer, but not likely. Maybe FB?)
O.J. Mayo (rumors = speculation = Mayo goes elswhere in the end)
JuJuan Johnson (see Southern)
J.J. Hickson (verbal by Koufos means he is not a priority)
Julian Vaughn (always been a longshot, will land in the ACC most likely)

So, with that in my opinion we are looking at either Tyus or Turner to finish the 2007 class. Possible sleeper could be Dante Jackson.

The 2008 class is shaping up quite nicely with Mullens and Offutt in the fold, 2 top 25 players nationally and this is where it gets interesting...

Delvon Roe seems like the top target on the board for the staff, we recently offered. Florida may be a player here. I like our chances with Roe. Roe is shooting up the rankings and is assured of being at least a top 50 player nationally at this point, but possibly could be a top 25 player.

Yancey Gates in another target at the PF spot, but is reportedly concerned with the depth at tOSU. Gates has the physical tools to be a great player, but seems to take breaks during games in my opinion.

If I had to pick just one for the PF spot, give me Roe anyday of the week, he has unlimited potential.

Adding Roe to Mullens and Offutt would be a great class and a 1/2 guard would help round out the class.

Remaining thoughts on targets for the 2008 class:

Emmanuel Negedu (physically gifted, great offers, its early)
Anthony Crater (tOSU has offered, rising star, would be a good fit)
Kenny Frease (I simply love this kid, could be a sleeper, keep an eye on)
William Buford (underrated, could be a potential star nationally)
Devon Moore (needs to develop his game at this stage)
Rayshaun Goins (Another prospect to keep an eye on)
Damian Eargle (a top player in Ohio for the 2008 class)
Anthony McBride (a top player in Ohio for the 2008 class, I believe he is Gates brother)

I still think we are going to need 2 wings and a pg in the 07/08 and another pf in the 08 class. Roe will do the trick there.

The reason I say we need 2 wings, one in 07 and one in 08 is b/c there is no way Cook stays till the 08 season, unless he is injured(knock on wood), he is just too good.

I don't think there is any way that we dont offer Buford in the 08 class and that would be our guy for that class.

That would give us 4 guys capable of playing the 2/3 and then Offut, Conley, and hopefully one more of Crater, Wright, or someone else to play the 1/2.

That gives us 7 guys in the backcourt and probably 4 or 5 in the front court.

Also keep in mind with the talent that we are bringing in you never know with the way guys jump to the league how fast these guys may start thinking about that and might not be here all four years.

Would Goins be a viable option as a PG, even though he is around 6'5"?

No, Goins is strictly a 2 guard.

KyleSLamb reports that Bell will transfer to Utah State, per his AAU coach.

This opens up another scholie for the 2007 class and their are a few things going on behind the scenes that could fill this scholie rather quickly. Check out Kyle Lamb's Schott in the Arm article if you get a chance.

Man this could get very interesting.

At this point I am in the camp that feels that Tyus is going to be the one to fill the that last spot, but if he decides to go elsewhere or trys to wait in anyway we seem to have some backup plans.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Hmm, not used to you wondering what the staff is doing HotMic, lol.

Haha. Yeah...when it comes to the bball team i'm a little lacking. I have heard several names talked about since I started asking around. guess we will just have to wait and see.

Any9one have any guesses on who that 07' guy Kyle speaks of could be? This is a very interesting turn of events...

Could possibly be a name off the radar, but if it was someone who showed strong interest in OSU before verbaling to another program, my gut tells me it could be Chris Wright. Rakim Sanders could be a possiblity but distance played a real role in his verbal. Wright recently exploded at a major AAU event, he could be having second thoughts, OSU never recruited him very hard the first time around...FWIW.
