OSU vs. NC State (2003)

Yeah, zero room to talk.

We've got some real attitude problems on the field right now. Frankly, I think we're embarrassing ourselves out there. Not with the score, that's just a byproduct. But rather with the total lack of discipline.

Right now, I feel like Will Allen, Drew Carter, Mike Nugent and Sander might be the only 3 guys on the field who showed up to play.

Our OLine is sluggish and lethargic. Bryce Bishop should not be starting.

What's up Will Smith's ass is a complete and total mystery. At first I was thinking maybe he needs to be benched. Now I feel like he should be out there until the game ends.

I hope JT is knocking some sense into them right now.

But as Head said over on BNuts before it went down, if this had to happen, at least it's this week against SDSU, and not next against NCSU.

I *hate* this announcing crew. That little troll they have down on the field, the idiots calling the game -- I don't even want to think about it.

Have we never seen a draw play before?

This MO thing cannot continue to drag out, or I think it's going to really start costing us games. I felt this team was too disciplined to really let their frustration show on the field. I was grossly mistaken.

Worst half of football from a focus standpoint (IMO) in a couple years.

We'll still win, but we're going to take some serious (and mostly deserved) flack this week. And it will be a while before Craig's name is mentioned by the media for the Heisman. I can't decide if he has his head up his ass as well, or if it's a result of our OL playing like a wet towel.

Anyway, there are some positives clearly. Will Allen's 100y INT TD being the obvious. A few individual other plays here and there, not one of them being on offense.

If we come out in the second half looking equally pissy and downtrodden, I think I might burn some nice big holes in my stomach. Again, not over the score, but over what this Mo situation has done to an outstanding team.

WTF!!! After reading the comments I decided to break out the wire and attach it to my antenna, to try and pick up the game (f**king dish network isn't showing it). And if it wasn't for the uniforms I would be able to recognize the buckeyes!!! This is not the team I saw last week. Nice hit by D'Andrea to force a fumble though. :bonk: 16 - 13 WTF!!!

That may have been the worst performance by a Tressel team I have ever seen, and I'm counting the games they lost. I sincerely hope no Buckeye fans give NC State any grief for their loss. I sure how Krenzel has not been reading all the news clippings about how great he is. This performance should certainly bring him back to earth. The line play was not good but even when he had time he didn't deliver the ball well and some of those throws were off, and that's putting it mildly. That did not look a like a Coach Tressel coached team today. I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet but there is a whole lotta work to be done. Let's just hope this is the kick in the rear this team obviously needs because there is no way San Diego St. should have made this game competitive.

BTW, it's mighty nice to see Notre Dame getting pounded :wink2:

Well, now I can take a breath. With everything thats happened so far this season I'll take the win and be happy about it. SDSU played a good game. They went into the shoe jacked and believed they could win. Hats off to them. Buttttt, I hope the Bucks are better prepared for next week. After taking it in the keister from Wake Forest the Pack will come out hitting hard. A few observations from the 2nd half.
1. OSU's D is still as advertised. Although they played sloppy at times they still dominate.
2. Krenzel flat out sucked today. But I'd still start him against the Pack.
3. I almost would have rather seen that group of lardasses on the OL we had last year than the group I saw today. I'm hoping they just had trouble adjusting to SDSU's line. If they would have had a better game perhaps Craig would have to.
4. Go WSU. F**K Notre Dame.

I don't get this either. These guys seem like their looking down at their shoes when they run in there.

Krenzel's confidence appeared to have left like air from a popped balloon. What's up with that? Was he rushed? Not planting his front foot down? One play could've swung the game though, and that was a dropped pass that Jenkins had on a deepish hook route. He started to run before he caught the ball and I think it woulda been a possible touchdown.

I thought the return for the TD was going to ignite us but it didn't.

I must be impatient, I kept wanting to see Smith or Zwick get in there and do somethning differently than Krenzel. Krenzel's throws were flying out of the stadium.

Too many "ifs" today, but thanks to KSUBuck because that post puts it in better perspective for me. I think that I can't read news or watch TV regarding them this week. I'm a little shaken. I keep thinking... "Where's all this talent? Aren't we supposed to be able to just fly right up over and around?" But like you said, THE DEFENSE is still pretty awesome- even though Nate Salley blew a tackle on that TD.

Ok. I know what you're thinking. Let it go.

I flubbed a recording of last weeks Washington rout & looked forward to recording today's game in order to check out Irizarry, Zwick, and our Frosh! I stopped recording at the half!
1) The O line played as flat as I have ever seen in the Shoe, including visitors! (saving up for next week?)
2) CK was off mark 70-80%, (ribs OK, Craig?)
3) JT is extremely "plan - oriented" & this may serve well in the future, but makes for an emotional ride in the Buckeye Room!
4) Drank only Busch visitor beer & saved the dark brews for Sunday!
5) Was relieved that guests had other obligations! ( OSU games are rare in SEC country!
6) We need a briar in the ass to wake up & out of off - field events; this should fit the bill!
7) I look forward to an OSU/Tressel type of game next Sat.!
8) Busch beer should not be imbibed with snow cones!
9) Even an UGLY win is a WIN!

Officiating

This may have already been addressed, but the officiating duing the SDSU game was ****ing atrocious. Since when does getting blocked into the punter garner 15 yards? We definitely showed a lack of discipline at times, but there were just as many blown calls (the out of bounds hit, the pass interference on Fox, etc.) as blatant misdoings on our part. Certainly no excuse for that kind of performance, but it obviously didn't help.

What nauseates me most about this situation is that Clarett's 'entourage' will now have legitimate things to say about his absence and how it affects the team. After the Washington game, I was more than happy to see him go. Now...not so sure. Still have no patience for his bullshit, but I'd be willing to bet that had Mo been on the field, the outcome would have been drastically different.

Looks like we now have a "V-Dog" to go with our "C-Dog." Welcome aboard Vince.

This game was ugly every way you look at it. 13 Penalties? 1 third down conversion (at 2:00 mark and it was HUGE)? Zero running game. Zero passing game. Krenzel looked like he was running plays out of a different playbook. Stevie Wonder could have thrown better passes today. I would have had no problem with Tressel sitting CK and going a different route. It was as bad as I've seen it in a very long time.

But. A win is a win and you take it and move on. This happened last year and we persevered. Your damn right you get this "one" out of the way early against an inferior opponent that you can get away with it against.

My biggest concern is with the OL. Their run blocking is atrocious. The pass blocking seems adequate but what happened to the 5 yard push off the line of scrimmage? I don't think MC would have even been a factor today. There was NO room to run.

CRACK, there goes another beer. Just keep saying to yourselves, 16 in a row.

Good post V... Glad to see someone else noticed the atrocious officiating. SDSU finishes with 7 pts. if not for those crap flags. Additionally, we add at least a few FG's. How about the late hit flag in the second half when the guy had both feet still inbounds, sheese! :pissed: Additionally, while the Bucks played poorly offensively, SDSU played an excellent game on both sides of the ball, but without the turnover on the first possession and the nasty officiating, I don't think they score at all, at the most a FG. Oh well, I'm on to next week and ready for the Green Bay game!

THOUGHTS

Some random thoughts:

1) Maybe I am in the tiny minority, but I don't think the MC controversy itself had as much effect as some do. I think Tress has done a good job of shielding the "team" from its effects. The one exception could be if the offense has come to the subliminal conclusion that without MC they are not going to be very good and it affects their output, particularly the line. Hard to tell.

2) That was a whole season worth of penalties, and perhaps the officiating was bad (I particularly agree with the roughing the kicker call and a couple of going out of bounds calls). But the officiating is kinda bad everywhere. (When the WSU kicker was knocked on his butt during his overtime miss, nothing was called. He was not faking, much)

3) I suspect the real problem was that an off day combined with a "reading and believing our press clippings" mentality by many, even the coaches. It is hard not to get an exalted opinion of oneselves when you read that you are a 32 point favorite and a solid #2 in the country. Those oddsmakers must know something about our opponent! We speculated about NCST looking ahead to us as their next opponent. We may have been guilty of that ourselves.

4) I don't want to hear that "you can't get up for every opponent" which even Woody said, incidentally. You can at least be "adequately" prepared mentally for every opponent, and I don't think that occurred. We'll find out Saturday whether we have refocused properly. Go Bucks!

There were some bad calls, however we didn't play very disiplined... How many personal fouls did we have?

Hey, at least we got the W, and our guys should come back down to earth... Hope to see a much improved team next sat...
