After Sunday’s round, they should be smiling.

The Big Ten Tournament is this weekend. Here’s recap of round 1. Here is Recap of round 2.

As a refresher, the participating players participating were: Will Grimmer, Tee-k Kelly, Clark Engle, Josh Wick and Grant Weaver. This has been the core lineup for coaches Moseley and Smith for most of the season.

3rd Round

The Buckeyes got a solid team performance to improve their standing during the final round. By the end of the round, the team score of 283 (-5) and moved them up a position to 8th place. Their round was 13 strokes better than Saturday and was the 2nd best round of the day. That’s pretty good closing speed.

The Buckeyes were led by Clark Engle 70 (-2) and Josh Wick 70 (-2). Tee-K Kelly 71 (-1) and Will Grimmer 72 (E) rounded out the team score. Grant Weaver shot an 80 (+8).

The Buckeyes, teeing off on #10, raced out to a team score of -5 through their first 9 holes. had a very solid team score of +2 on their opening 9 holes. On their back nine, they couldn’t sustain anything against par, but closing birdies by Kelly and Wick were absolutely clutch.

Player scores, below:

Big Ten Rd 1 Rd 2 Rd 3 Total To Par
Team 298 296 283 877 13
Will Grimmer 70 73 72 215 -1
Tee-k Kelly 76 71 71 218 2
Clark Engle 79 77 70 226 10
Josh Wick 74 75 70 219 3
Grant Weaver 78 81 80 239 23
To Par 10 8 -5 13

Will
thrilled his opening nine holes with 4 birdies / 2 bogeys, then settled in for a +2 back nine for a very good even par round.

Tee-K put together 4 birdies in his solid round of -1, 71. This was a big-time round.

Josh was -2 after 9 holes, but peppered his back 9 with 4 birdies/4 bogies for probably one of the most interesting stretch of nine holes you’ll ever see. Josh’s 6 birdies led the team on the day.

Clark put together two 9’s of 2 birdies/6 pars/1 bogey for a very solid round of -2, 70. He birdied 2 of his last 4 holes to finish strongly.

Grant had a good front 9 of +1, but things went south on his back nine. A triple bogey on his 12th hole pretty much took him out of team play for the round.

This was a solid final round; I’m sure the team and the coaches were happy with the outcome. This was a strong finish that should give the team some confidence going into the NCAA Regionals in three weeks.

The Buckeyes put together a round of 19 birdies, 51 pars, 17 bogeys, 2 double bogeys and 1 triple bogey.

Over three rounds, Ohio State played the par 3’s to an average of 3.30, 18 over par, ranking T-9th. They played the par 4’s to an average of 4,20, +30 to par, ranking them 7th. They played the par 5’s to an average of 4.82, -11 to par, ranking them T-4th.

For the event, Ohio State had 158 pars, ranking them T-5th and 46 birdies, ranking them T-6th.

Up next is the NCAA Regional qualifiers in mid-May.

Go Buckeyes!
