Anyone else ever been on a plane that had to make an emergency landing? All was fine on our flight from Columbus to Denver. Once we took off from Denver, all hell broke loose.






Plane makes emergency landing on one engine

A commercial airliner has landed safely after being diverted to a Colorado airport when one of its two engines stopped working due to low oil pressure, NBC affiliate KKCO-TV reports.

The Federal Aviation Administration says United Airlines Flight 321 declared an emergency due to right engine failure and diverted to Grand Junction Regional Airport, where it landed safely at 11:44 a.m.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the Boeing 757 was flying from Denver to Los Angeles on Sunday when the right engine shut down.

United spokesman Charlie Hobart says the plane was carrying 125 passengers and crew.

Passenger Jim Schreckengast tells the Associated Press the pilot announced over the public address speakers that the engine had lost oil volume. He said passengers remained calm and no one appeared to be afraid.

"There was some applause when we landed," he said. "I think the crew handled it very well."

Another plane has left Denver to carry the passengers on to Los Angeles.

UPDATE Monday, Dec. 12, 11:23 a.m.: A United Airlines jetliner that made an emergency landing in Grand Junction, Colo., over the weekend after an engine shut down is grounded until the Federal Aviation Administration reviews the airline's investigation and repairs.

FAA spokesman Mike Fergus said Monday the usual process is to give the airline time to fix the problem, unless an accident was involved.

When we landed in Grand Junction, we didn't really know the severity of the problem. I called the Disney cruise line to explain the situation and they basically said if we didn't land at LAX and get our shuttle by 3 and get to the boat by 4pm, we would miss our cruise..........



United finally got a plane to Grand Junction and we made it to LA, at 4pm. We were told the boat was setting sail at 4pm.


When we got our bags, Disney had a shuttle waiting for us and they zipped us to the boat. They actually weren't leaving until 5pm, and they checked us in and got us on the boat at 5:01.


Hat's off to Disney for going the extra mile to make sure we got to the boat.


Hat's off to the United crew for handling everything in the air with professionalism. We didn't even know the seriousness of the situation.


There was a military escort plane following us in just in case we crashed in the mountains so they would know where the wreckage was, and there were fire trucks and emergency vehicles lined up on the runway "just in case."


All in all, a pretty sweet vacation
 
Just God's way of telling you to recant your fandom of Michigan. Next time, he won't be so nice about it.

Yep. And for the same reason yours was - the plane had only one engine.

Our flight never got more than about 500 feet above the ground. As soon as we were airborne I knew we were going to be back on the ground soon ... one way or another.

My sister took an Alaska cruise and was sick most of the time. It was the dreaded "cruise sickness". She spent the time in her stateroom kept away from other passengers. She was visited by hazmat teams daily. :tongue2:
The cruise line did their best to withhold how many had come down sick.
It was probably 30% of the passengers.

at Grand Junction, they ordered pizza for everyone that was on the plane. They also gave us a web address to visit to get some coupons from United or something. But yeah, I was hoping for an adult beverage to take the stress off while wondering if we were going to make the ship or not

I don't buy the "travel insurance"; however (for a cruise) I do fly into the cruise departure city a day early.

yeah, we've never bought it either. We did cut it close on the flight times, but it's one of those things where it's never happened before, so we took the risk. It all worked out.


While we were sitting at Junction, my wife was tallying up how much United was going to have to cut us a check for if we missed the boat. It was large, and she would have got it too. She's hardcore.
