2018 Out-of-State Players to Watch

Interesting story on Darmstadt, Germany WR Zavier Scott
Zavier Scott has family ties to Ohio — both of his parents from the Buckeye State — but that family is a military family and is currently living in Germany. On Tuesday, he and a group of Europe’s best high school prospects made a stop in Columbus, the first of a handful of college camps they’ll attend.

The 6-1, 198-pound Scott ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash and opened the eyes of the Buckeyes and others.

“I talked to [Ohio State assistant coaches Kerry] Coombs and (Greg) Schiano,” Scott told Land of 10 following the camp. “Coach Coombs said they are officially recruiting and Coach Schiano was asking me about myself.”

Scott said he was confident he’d have a good camp.

“I came in telling myself that I was going to impress,” he said. “I was coming in to impress Ohio State. Ohio University said they’ll probably offer me.”

Ohio did.

This though, is where things get interesting. He just graduated from high school and could be eligible to play as a 2017 signee. But he says he’ll end up in the 2018 class as academic details gets sorted out. For now, he’s a 17-year-old spending much of June in the United States before heading back across the pond.

“I’ll be going to camps until June 23,” he said. “Then heading back to Germany. I’m hoping for a scholarship.”

Michigan will host the European group on Saturday.

“About a month or so ago, Coach Wilson, he contacted me and said he liked my tape and wanted me to get up here and let (head coach Urban) Meyer take a look at me and see me just go out there and compete,” the four-star prospect explained.
“(Ohio State) thought I did well,” Mitchell said. “I thought I performed pretty well. (They’re) going to call me back once they look at the tape and let me know overall.”
“I didn’t get an offer, but if I do, this is obviously a place I’d like to come back to and check out a game and just hopefully continue to grow the relationship with all of the coaches.”

WR Chris Olave (6'0" 160 lbs; San Marcos CA Mission Hills)

Through five games, Olave has 33 catches for 818 yards (24.8 ave) and 11 touchdowns.
"I'm going to visit Ohio State either November 11 or 18th," Olave said. "They just started talking to me about a month ago and about two weeks ago, they said they're close to offering. They said I'm an offer guy on film but they just want to get to know me first."
