Ozzie back to Cleveland as GM??

LoKyBuckeye

I give up. This board is too hard to understand.
Any word in Cleveland that once Butch is gone Ozzie Newsome may be the leading candidate for GM? I've heard his named mentioned on a number of occasions when they were talking about Butch Davis being fired on different sports radio shows through out the week.

Chris Mortensen mentioned that today on Countdown, LoKy. He said the first thing the Browns want to do is bring in a personnel guy. Newsome was one name and the personnel guy from the Patriots was the other name mentioned.

I always had interest in Bernie Kosar and what he would do after the Browns let him go. The way they did it was a damn shame. I figured someday he would come back because he had so much love for the people up in Ohio even though he resides here in Florida. Wouldn't it be great if Ozzie did become the " head honcho" of the Browns and somehow he could get Bernie back in the mix also. Bernie is so versatile, he would play any role that Ozzie would ask of him. He is a pretty savy person that is for sure. How could we ever forget how CLOSE he got us to our 1st Super Bowl in 1987. And to think that Cleveand & Detroit are the only 2 teams from the Original NFL never to go to the super bowl yet. All the rest have been there at least once.

Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli

pioli was quoted as saying that he was going to fulfill his remaining 2 years of his contract with the patriots before going anywhere else. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

If you look at Baltimore's draft history since ozzie has been there, you would be extremely impressed.

lol. no kidding.

however, davis' lack of OL upgrading helped destroy Couch. Brown is just a flop.
The only difference between Brown and "Big Money" is that Brown is hurt and does nothing, while Warren is healthy and does nothing.

Faine and Winslow were good picks, however, the drafting of Winslow is marred by the total idiocy of giving Detroit a 2nd rounder to move up one spot. It was a weak bluff at best and Davis bought it like a total chump.

Warren is a huge waste of a pick. He has to be gone after this season.

Brown has had one big injury bug. I don't believe he was ever injured at PSU. When he has been healthy, which has not been often, he has been good. He also needs to be gone after the season, or at least a big pay cut. I would not be surprised if he retires.

Faine has been okay, but he needs a better cast around him.

A decision cannot be made on Winslow. It would have been interesting to watch him this year with the way the TE's have been used so far. Davis did get screwed on giving up that extra pick to move up one spot. We could have used Winslow or Williams, but Davis was obsessed with Winslow.

All I have to say about Butch is he wanted the rope and now he is hanging himself with it. I remember reading an article about him when he was hired as the Browns new coach. It was the only negative one I saw (excluding those ones where he jumped ship on his players even though he said he was going nowhere) at the time. It basically said he had great talent at Miami, but was a terrible gameday coach. It talked about how he would win by superior talent alone.

I don't view Ozzie as a traitor. There are only a few minorities in the front offices of pro teams... Ozzie did what he had to in order to succeed in the NFL front office. Leaving with the team can be forgiven because his was always a class guy. fArt on the other hand will always be an asshole.

You want people with direct roots to the organization in order to best revive it. Newsome, and as Kips mentioned above, Kosar, would be great additions to the organization. They would be individuals who actually gave a shit about the organization and about making it championship caliber.

I love bernie kosar as much as anyone else, but the guy has no record in personel evaluation and has pretty much been out of football for years. Not to mention the fact that by all reports he's pretty happy down in South Florida. A good PR move by whoever does become GM would be to bring Bernie on board as some sort of assistant GM or something.

I wonder if the bridges haven't already been burned between Ron Wolf and Randy Lerner, or if Wolf's beef was more with Butch ...
