P.J. Fleck (Boat Rower, HC Minnesota Golden Gophers)

He probably should wait for better.

I've disagreed on this board about that and will again all day long.

Purdue is a good spot - the board is patient with their coaches, he knows the area, expectations at the school are reasonable, etc. You can have a solid program at Purdue where you can expect to win 8 games a year and get to a decent bowl every year and Fleck can get them there but it will take 3-4 years and Purdue is one of the schools that will give him that time, even if he goes 2-10 and 3-9 his first two years.

P.J. Fleck still working on taking ‘Row the Boat’ to Minnesota

Will P.J. Fleck keep rowing the boat in the Twin Cities? The new Minnesota head coach certainly would like to.

Fleck told the network that the phrase came about after he and his wife lost their second son to a heart condition. The Broncos’s board of trustees currently owns the trademark, but have stayed mum on turning it over to their ex-coach so far.

Given how these things usually play out, it seems like the phrase will eventually make its way to the Big Ten once the two schools agree on some form of compensation. After handing Fleck a five-year contract worth $18.5 million, that probably won’t be too much of a hurdle for Minnesota but it may take some times for everything to fall into place.

"Row the Boat" is trademarked? Does that include doing it, or just saying it? I need to know fast. I was just about to buy a boat.

They trademarked a phrase that originated from the death of a child?

And now they're going to fight over who owns it?

P.J. Fleck can use 'Row the Boat' with Golden Gophers

New Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck can now "Row The Boat" in the land of 10,000 lakes.

Sources said Fleck's agent Bryan Harlan reached an agreement Wednesday with Western Michigan for the university to transfer rights to the phrase, which was used by Fleck but trademarked by the university.

The trademark, filed by the university in May 2013 and registered in September 2015, will be transferred to Harlan's company, Harlan Sports, sources said. Harlan and Fleck are then expected to allow Minnesota to use the mark as it sees fit, including on merchandise, as long as Fleck is with the school.

In return, Fleck will give Western Michigan at least $50,000 through five payments of $10,000 to endow a scholarship for a football player.
