Pat Fitzgerald (HC Northwestern Wildcats, Forever)

I'm honestly surprised more coaches don't follow the Bill Snyder/Kirk Ferentz path. One route earns you statues, stadium naming rights, and legend status, the other... if you fail hard then you're in the spot Schiano is in -- your best friends' DC until somebody deems your career rehabilitated.

The grass ain't always greener on the other side.
Exactly.

You have a job as long as you want it, in a fun career, cashing paychecks most anyone would kill for and you enjoy your personal life largely out of the white hot spotlight. Sounds like Nirvana to me.

I like Fitz and he has it pretty good right now. Coaching his Alma Mater and he will stay there as long as he wants. I admire a coach that has that kind of loyalty and he is good for Northwestern. I will root against him anytime the good guys play them but I will root for him any other game. Hope he retires there, it is rare to see a solid coach stay at a program like NW for that long and retire there.

Will always be curious what he could do with more resources, though.

Kinda looks like he’s got that?

I meant players. Would love to see what he could do with 4 and 5 star kids vice 2 and 3 star.

He gets 5* QB Hunter Johnson, transfer from Clemson who sat out this year, in 2019. The rest of the team is almost all 3*, but he could keep them competing in the West.

Also, he's with another team, but Fitz has earned this thread title update.

And complete control over the program. The AD, Pres, Trustees, etc will be gone before Fitz.
He gets to run his program how he wants at his alma mater.

My brother is in Northwestern’s PT program so, while my wife and I visited him, we went up to Evanston (he lives closer to his program, which is downtown) and saw the facility. Insanely gorgeous. No idea how anyone can pay attention to practice with that view

Well, they clearly aren’t being distracted by the cheerleaders.
