You might want to check the thread on Corporal Jason Dunham. Or do a Google search on SFC Paul Ray Smith, Sgt Rafael Peralta and LCpl Christopher Adlesperger (or Major Ray Mendoza for someone who hits a bit closer to home).

While Cpl Tillman more than earned my professional respect it is important not to lessen the sacrifices made by others by elevating him to an unrealistic level.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Pat would have been the first to say the same thing. In his mind he was a soldier first and proud to be a member of that fraternity. He certainly didn't believe he was in any way different from the brothers he served with.

Hahaha that's what Michael Vick said about not cutting his hair untill he wins a Super Bowl.

His hair might be just a little easier to hide though.

I believe that Michael Vick said that he wouldn't take his herpes medication until he wins a Super Bowl--slight difference.

McCain calls mistakes in Tillman death a travesty

By JEFF CARLTON / Associated Press

Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Monday criticized mistakes made by high-ranking Army officers who passed along misleading and inaccurate information in reporting the death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman, a former NFL star.

Calling those mistakes part of an "inexcusable cover-up," McCain praised Tillman's mother, Mary, for challenging the official military report on her son's death.

Army Secretary to recommend retired general be demoted
Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Army Secretary Peter Geren is expected to recommend that a retired three-star general be demoted for his role in providing misleading information about the death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman, military officials say, in what would be a stinging and rare rebuke.

Lt. Gen. Philip Kensinger, who headed Army special operations, is one of six high-ranking Army officers expected to get official reprimands for making critical errors in reporting the circumstances of Tillman's purported friendly-fire shooting in Afghanistan in April 2004.

DALLAS (AP)?The late Pat Tillman, a former Arizona State linebacker who gave up a professional football career to join the military, is among 19 players up for election to the College Football Hall of Fame for the first time this year.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame released a ballot Tuesday with 75 players and eight coaches eligible for election to the hall.

Not trying to be mean, but what are the standards for admission? I mean, Tillman was not, in my mind, a HOF player based upon :assuming ESPN voice: his "body of work."

Getting killed by his own troops is sad. Volunteering for the military and giving up his NFL millions is laudable. But - ya know - I thought it was for you play rather then for our off-field exploits. Anybody know the standards for admission?
