I'm hearing this is a done deal, but haven't confirmed officially yet.
Smoov, you can probably conclude what you need to know from the general pissed-offedness of us Buckeye fans over this news.

Great get for the Hogs, assuming the deal is consummated.

I'm seeing lot's of confirmation chatter about this on teh twitters.

If it turns out to be true - and I hope it is - I'm pretty excited.

He looks very, very solid and will be a significant upgrade over Willie Robinson, awesome mustache notwithstanding.

Thanks Buckeyes! :oh::io:

Does anybody think that despite taking seemingly 6 saftiesa year, our play at S has ben anything morethen average?

That's actually not a bad point though...aside from Barnett, pretty lackluster as of late. OJ hasn't played well, Bryant has looked good at times but inconsistent, Wood has big time hype and never panned out, Domicone has seen little time at safety, Moeller wouldn't be fair because of the injury, Nate Oliver never did anything beyond special teams, and the jury is out on Cash and Tanner.

However, that was just this year. Can't forget about Coleman, Hines, Whitner, etc.

Paul is a hard working, high character guy. Beyond just getting a terrific coach, you guys are also getting a man who is going to be a great role model for the kids in your program. Best of luck to him at Arkansas -- I'm happy that he's landed in a top job.

Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino confirmed Friday night Ohio State co-denfensive coordinator and safeties coach Paul Haynes has a verbal agreement in place to be the new defensive coordinator for the Razorbacks.

Haynes has ties with Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino and former Razorback coordinators John L. Smith and Garrick McGee.

?Through his experiences, Paul Haynes is extremely familiar with the way we operate,? said Coach Petrino. ?He has a professional approach and is an exceptional coach and recruiter. This is a competitive conference and we are determined to go head-to-head with the very best. Having Paul join our program will help us as we continue on the path toward our goal of consistently winning championships.

He has been a part of a team with a culture of doing just that,"
Petrino added. "Paul has incredibly high standards and the defenses he has built have been challenging to prepare for and have always played with toughness, intensity and desire.?

Haynes has been with the Buckeyes since 2005 and also had stops at Louisville with Petrino, Michigan State (with Smith) among other college stops and was also a quality control coach for the NFL?s Jacksonville Jaguars.

While with Jacksonville in 2001, he was the defensive quality control coach at the same time former Razorback offensive coordinator and current UAB head coach McGee was the offensive guy under then offensive coordinator Petrino.

Haynes shared the co-defensive coordinator title with Luke Fickell, the interim head coach after Ohio State forced out Jim Tressel.

Under Haynes' tutelage, Ohio State had five All-American defensive backs and 10 first-team All-Big Ten selections.

Eight of those defensive backs were selected in the 2006-11 NFL Drafts, including first rounders Donte Whitner and Malcolm Jenkins.

What I'm hearing is that despite the Randy Shannon smokescreen earlier in the week, that Haynes was the #1 target all along.

I especially like, agree with, and think important that coming from "culture of winning championships" was a prerequisite for our new Defensive Coordinator.

I'm pretty trilled. This looks like a home-run hire to me.

Football: Haynes Eager For New Challenge At Arkansas

Arkansas News Bureau ? [email protected]

FAYETTEVILLE ? Paul Haynes and Bobby Petrino sat down for about four hours last week, discussing football, philosophies and the Arkansas-Ohio State Sugar Bowl.

It was an in-depth conversation. A good one, too, apparently. When it was over, Petrino felt confident he had found his new defensive coordinator, while Haynes was eager to tackle his new opportunity.

?We chopped it up for about four hours just talking about philosophies,? Haynes said Monday afternoon. ?I got his feel for it. He got my feel. We came out of that knowing that it was going to be a good fit.?

Arkansas? new defensive coordinator was introduced during a press conference Monday, carrying out one of his first duties with the Razorbacks. Haynes replaces Willy Robinson, who was let go after four years last week. His job now is to help Arkansas become a championship caliber defense after spending the past seven seasons working at Ohio State.

There?s pressure, Haynes admitted, to produce for an Arkansas team that has struggled defensively under Petrino. But Haynes said he?s eager to get to work molding a unit to compliment Arkansas? offense.

?We know our offense can put up points. We?ve got to take the pressure off of them in not having to win games 45-40,? Haynes said. ?Be an effective defense. Our goal ? and we?re not going to sell ourselves short ? is to be the best defense in the country.?
