yes yes this is a must. they are in vegas afterall. the old man is a riot and chum ...what can i say...

Yeah, it would be much more interesting if one of them had a seriously hot wife or girlfriend that would drop in every day wearing inappropriate clothing. Ratings would definitely go up.

Wife and I watched a lot of this last night. There was a marathon of alternating episodes of Pawn Stars & American Pickers yesterday. I think I watched about six hours worth.

I have always liked both shows, but I had never realized what a ratings wrecking ball Pawn Stars has become. Over the past couple weeks the show has been drawing 7m+ viewers, making it the highest rated show on cable behind Jersey Shore, and the highest rated show ever on History.

I'm glad. More shows like this and less Ice Road Truckers and AxMen is fine by me.

This is one of my favorite shows on TV. Those guys really benefit from being in Vegas where people just need the money immediately to gamble, because they really low-ball the hell out of most of the people who come in their shop.

If they were offering me $5,000 less than what an expert just told me something was worth, I'd go the ebay route first. Some of those people are total suckers.

This is what cracks me up. I was watching an episode where a guy brought in an alchemy book owned by Isaac fucking Newton that was appraised for $20K. He sold it to them for $7K. Fucking retard. I'm constantly yelling at the idiots on that show that sell shit for 25-30% of it's value. I'm guessing that 75-80% of them are degenerate gamblers.

I can see taking the cash in a situation where you've got an expert on hand authenticating the item and a prospective buyer who will give you $7,000 in cash right now. For instance, in the case of the Isaac Newton book, it might go for $20K at auction at Sotheby's, but it's not like you can just throw it on eBay, claim Newton owned it, and you're guaranteed $20,000 in your PayPal account seven days later.

So the ones that get me are the people that bring in small low dollar items that could easily sell on eBay and take less than half value for it. Like the guy that brought in his Nintendo Virtual Boy with box and all documentation and sold if for $70. Dude, put that on eBay with a $145 Buy-It Now and it'll be gone within eight hours.

couldnt agree more. But you guys have to remember one thing. Ebay requires a bank account and or CC to get money back. You be SOO surprise how many cant use ebay or cant even keep a valid checking account. I feel bad for the shop when they go through having someone come do down to find out what this person has, and then they bail. But i guess thats the cost of doing business. Cause the shop has to pay those people(except for the that one dude that works for the historical society and never gives a price, asshole :0 )

great show, love pickers too.

That's true, but taking 35% value on an item appraised by an expert for 20 large is just stupid to me...unless you're in dire need of cash post haste. Do some research and find a way to get at least 60-70% of that value. Hell, I'm sure the "expert" can point you in the right direction.

But yeah, the guys that sell shit that they could easily make double on by listing it on ebay or craigslist drives me nuts too. I'm betting most of that money goes right in the slots.
