Paydro Signs with the Mets

Morons abound...

The Mets vastly overpay for yet another pitcher...

Pedro finally gets over the hump with the Spankees (well, not personally, but at least team wise, since Pedro blew in the ALCS), only to go to the Mess and get punked for another four years in interleague play. The New York media is going to tear him a new one all over again...

That ridiculous contract also pretty much assures that only one team in the entire galaxy will be able to trade for him when the Mess suck once again and decide to cut payroll - (cue Empire music - DA DA DA DA DA-DA DA DA-DA...)

The Mets'll severely pay for this deal on the back-end of it. But for the next two years, they'll get some value for it. Lets face it: a rotation of Martinez, Glavine, Benson, Trachsel, and Zambrano aint bad at all.

I wouldn't have made this offer if I'm the Mets, but this organization isn't exactly known for shrewd baseball decisions/moves.

Very true. He got the deal he wanted, but the crap that he pulled in Boston (leaving the clubhouse early, not showing up for team meetings, etc.) won't be tolerated here. This might be a disaster in the making.

I assure you that the Empire has no interest in Pedro and won't trade for him at the end of this deal.

Hilarious...he'll start 5x as many bench-clearing brawls, because he'll be hitting guys when they're behind instead of when they're ahead. And he actually has to bat now too...hmmmm.....

What's the over/under on the amount of time it will take Adam Dunn to bust his gourd after plunking him? I can't wait to see that one - it'll be like seeing Andre the Giant take on Danny DeVito.

Thump: "Do you have a link to this? I don't see is on ESPN.com."

The two major sports talk radio stations in Boston and New York reported it approximately 5 seconds before I posted it.

They just came back with this (five minutes later after originally reported): the offer is on the table and has been accepted, but not signed yet. It is unsure as to whether or not the Red Sox will attempt an 11th Hour offer.

Horrible move by the Mets brass to guarantee Paydro the 4th year and by not making him do an MRI on his shoulder. I wonder how long that labrum will hold up....I give it 'til the end of May.

It's another Mo Vaughnesque contract by the Metropolitans.

I agree. I think this is a disaster in the making. Jayson Stark reports that Martinez has a 90% tear in his laybrum (sp?).

I think Omar Minaya is shaping up to be an awful, AWFUL GM. He did a terrible job in Montreal, and is continuing the same trend here. He is way more concerned about getting his name in the paper behind 'blockbuster rumors' and 'big-name acqisitions' than he is putting together a winning baseball team.

His resume of trades to date is TERRIBLE to say the least. Good job here, Omar!!

Well, since the contract is contingent on him passing his physical, they still have an out if that 90% is an accurate number.

You'd think after the Mets wasted money on Burnitz, Roger Cedeno, Alomar, Big'Mo, Stiff Floyd and Matsui the last few years that they would learn their lesson.
