I read the earlier post pleading for decorum among our fans this week, and at first I agreed with it. Hell, I'm usually slammed around here for being too harsh and critical towards the actions of some elements of our fanbase on gameday.

Like I said, I initially agreed with it. Then, I thought about the students rioting in support of JoePa. How the Pedd State fans managed to turn Saturday into 5% about the victims and 95% about who they really see as the victim (hint, it's [censored]ing JoePa). Read the article about the fans abusing the guy with the sign calling for a forfeit.

As far as I'm concerned we don't need to play nice with these [censored]s. [censored] them. Anything short of threats, physical contact or an actual misdemeanor is fine by me. They don't deserve any kind of "Nebraska treatment." If any fanbase ever deserved to hear exactly and in precise detail what a disgrace their coach, program and university are and what a complete collection of arseholes they are, it is this one.

Then, I'll turn around and root for Wiscy to give them an earful next week.

Might I suggest some rousing chants of "2-4-6-8; where's your coach at Pedd State!"

I get this line of thinking, but the thing is most (as in vast majority, at least in my experience) of the people who travel to road games (for any team, not just PSU) are not the ones rioting in the streets. Most are relatives of players or middle-aged folks who either follow their son to games or go because they can get tickets to road games through the school but get shut out of home games (or are retired and can go to all of them). I guess my point only is the people you want to target will pretty much not be there.

Lord knows that I'm no fan of Nebraska nor happy about their admittance into the Big Ten. I do, however, admire the behavior of their fanbase and am in fact a bit jealous of it. I just think if there's any one time to verbally unload on a visiting fanbase it's the Penn State fanbase at this particular time.
Eh, no.

That would make any participating Buckeye fans the story - with anyoe in blue & white cast as victim. Not the optics you seek I'd reckon.

You think the PSU fans are embracing their football over the alternative of laying blame where it belongs. Yeah, that it is true, they are. But there is a better response. Simply shun 'em if you feel that way.

To All Ohio State Fans, especially those going to the game next Saturday:

Some have observed that, given their reputation, Wisconsin fans will be merciless toward Penn State and their fans on the final Saturday of the regular season. I do not doubt this. The person posting it did not act as if they were going out on a limb. They were simply stating something that we all accept as fact.

No one will be thinking about that this weekend. That game is 2 weeks away. The Buckeyes' own game against the Nits is still 9 days in the future. Our thoughts are on vengeance for our last trip to West Lafayette. That is where our TV sets will be tuned at Noon on Saturday. That is what we care most about, and rightly so.

Later in the day however, our thoughts and our TV sets will turn toward Happy Valley, to the replay of what happened there. What happened there may put the Buckeyes in firm control of their own destiny in the Leaders Division. That may not be what the announcers talk about; but it will be what matters to us, and rightly so.

Whether it is during that telecast or during replays of the riot that occurred last night; our ears will, no doubt, be assaulted with the 2nd most annoying chant in all of college football. When you hear it; I implore you to hear something else. While they lay proud claim to who they are, let it remind you of who we are not. Our cheer this weekend is, "We Are - Not Them!".

No, I am not saying that we are not Penn State. While this is true, and while we can be grateful for it, it is not where our focus should be. The point of all this is, "We Are - NOT WISCONSIN!".

We are not drunken, bottle-throwing fools who delight in other peoples' misfortune and publicly disgrace ourselves. We are not classless simpletons who parade classless banners before television cameras, bringing shame on our university. We are not them, Columbus is not Madison, The Ohio State University is not Wisconsin.

If we were to behave like Wisconsin fans when Penn State rolls into town, the Blue & White clad visitors would leave feeling defensive and self-righteous. If we behave like true Buckeyes and show the visitors cordial hospitality, if we act like we are reasonable enough to realize that they are NOT (for the most part) the same people who rioted last night and that they had nothing to do with the failure to protect the innocence of the innocents; then the visitors will return to Pennsylvania thinking not about how they were treated, but about how their own university has been utterly disgraced, and rightly so.

Let the disney channel say what they will. Let them make all the comparisons they want. Let them disgrace themselves. But do not let them compare our behavior to that of the Happy Valley rioters. I harbor no illusions about Buckeye fans doing anything that would actually be as deplorable as much of what was seen last night. None of us however, harbor any illusions about the mickey mouse club portraying ANY misbehavior on our part as being just as bad if not worse.

If we behave like true Buckeyes, if we cheer our Seniors (ALL of our Seniors) on Senior Day and cheer the team during and after the game, if we leave everything else out of it; then nothing ESPN says will matter. At the end of that game every viewer will be thinking that Ohio State is a better place than Penn State (and Madison). And rightly so.

I don't know if ORD was talking about my post or not; but I do know that 'Lion nailed it. The people who go to road games are not the same ones that deserve the Madison treatment (and I agree with ORD that they deserve it).

As we have found with our interactions with the 'Canes, it is usually the fairweather fans that behave the worst. Whatever this week's PSU visitor are, they are clearly not fairweather fans. They are more likely than ever to be exactly the demographic that 'Lion described.

And don't think for a moment that these miserable self-righteous fucks weren't planning on rolling into Ohio Stadium with their pathetic "Legends and Liars" t-shirts and rubbing our face in our problems.
is it too late to print out some "Legends and Lechers" t-shirts?

Good points Lion and BDB. While going out of one's way to rub their fans faces in things is most likely going too far. I would hope that should any play the victim or try and defend JoePa, they get an earful in return.

Oh yes, there's little doubt that if anyone works the "Joe was framed" or "Free Joe" angle, they're going to get some, which is why I think this game will be unlike any other I've been to. However a middle-aged father of 3 making the drive from somewhere in PA is unlikely to be that person, so hopefully they won't get caught up in it.

What I'm wondering about is their students. They've always had a pretty good contingent make the trip, and I'm sure that it wasn't middle aged alums or players' parents who tore up the bleachers in Ann Arbor a few years ago.

If they pull any of their crazy JoePa was framed [Mark May] out on the lanes, I expect Ohio State fans to take their pieces away, shove them up their asses and pull the triggers* until they go, "click."

*figuratively, of course.

Planning on being at the Skull Session, and hopefully can land ok seats for $30 (one can wish, right? ). More than likely will end up watching the game either somewhere close to campus, or out at Dave & Buster's after the Skull Session.

My prediction: Ohio State 24 Penn State 17
Defenses gets a pick six, Braxton runs for a touchdown, Herron gets a rushing TD, and Ohio State kicks a 30 - 40 yard field goal.

I'm thinking same score, but with 8 field goals.

It's never been done you know.

It has, but only when the other team scores only touchdowns...

On a side note, I'll take ORD's above comments one step further...give every PSU fan the benefit of the doubt, but as soon as any start running off at the mouth about Paterno being innocent/framed, then all bets are off (only to those running their mouths, of course).
