Penn State at tOSU, Oct 30th, 7:30 PM, ABC

Just rewatched the 2018 game. Thanks to the best play of Binjimen Victor’s career, and at least 4 well-executed screen plays, including the final one with McLaurin’s block taking down 3 Nits, the Buckeyes got out of there with a win.

I’m trying to imagine if Ryan Day will call any screens for Henderson this week. Nah, probably not.

Why are you afraid to admit the truth? I just can’t understand it. If Penn State isn’t the biggest home conference game on the schedule this year then who is? If you were in the lottery to receive tickets to one home conference game this year, who would you pick? PSU or MSU?

MSU is technically a rival but our shared hatred for Michigan has always made for friendly relations between the fan bases. And the Spartans only occasionally go through stretches where they’re a threat.

Here’s another fact: OSU has a cold rivalry with Notre Dame. I say it’s a “cold” rivalry because they almost never play. But most of the fans hate the other and it’s always a big deal when they play.

Most rivalries are geographical. In this region there are four teams in the top 10 of all time winning percentage: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Penn State (top 8 if you want to be specific). PSU is the other big brand on the schedule that is a threat to beat the Bucks every year.

If you can’t acknowledge that PSU is OSU’s second biggest rival then you’re just in denial.

Sigh. Because it isn't the truth. Saddle up, cowboy, you're about to fall off that high horse.

1. Any ranked team coming to your house is a big game, even if they are only 20th. Oregon was a big game. MSU is a big game. A big game is not a rivalry. TSUN is The Game.

2. Thanks for asking, I'd want to see MSU. A better football team with a bigger upside in coming years.

3. A cold rivalry? That was my first wife, not Notre Dame. The media wants to say that Notre Dame is a rival for many teams. Neither Ohio State or Notre Dame consider the other a rival. Media sell that narrative because they have been very successful gaming the Big Ten for media bucks. Oh, before you start more nonsense, here is the Notre Dame rivalries media page: [click here]. Ohio State is not a rival.

4. Rivalries are not necessarily geographical. For example, Notre Dame and USC consider their game the most important rivalry game they play. Bowling Green, Ohio, Akron...they are all closer than Penn State...not rivals.

5. Any Big Ten team is a threat to beat any other. Ask Ohio State about Purdue and Iowa. Penn State has been a good football program over the years, albeit benefiting from being in a very weak league. However, they are a long way behind Ohio State on the important measurable criteria that define the elite programs [click here]. Since 2000, Ohio State has dominated PSU [click here].

In summary, there is no logic to the arguments that you are attempting to make.

The person who is in denial here is you. Please let it go. Every argument you have put forward has been refuted and, plenty of posters find this tiresome. Posting complete horse manure until nobody responds does not make you the cowboy who wins the argument,

PSU is not Ohio State's rival any more than Purdue, Iowa, or Michigan State. They never will be.

There are two rivals for Ohio State football. I say football because basketball probably has a different secondary rival (Indiana).

The first rival is, TTUN. It always has been always will be. No need for explanation. Has it been competitive? Not really over the last 20 years but that doesnt make it less of a rival.

The second rival is, Illinois. Why this happened I'm not sure but Ohio State's trophy game is the IlliBuck. It has also been that way for a long long time. Again, just because it isnt as competitive as it was doesn't make it less of a rival, just less interesting than the first.

If we played Clemson every year we would come to hate them even more and the game would be a lot more fiery from the fanbases but they still, would not be a rival. The same with Penn State, Sparty, Wisconsin so on and so on. Staunch competition does not a rivalry make.

Now, this game is going to even be less of a rivalry because the competition itself is going to last for about a quarter. Still, we will hate the fans and the school no less. But they are not our rival.

I'm not in denial. You are just wrong.

I hope we are past having to come back vs these guys. Hopefully this game is over by the half.

Part of me thinks it will be and a small part thinks PED will put up a decent fight before being put away. They just always find a way to keep it within 2 touchdowns so hopefully this is similar to when we beat them had at night in the Shoe the last two times.

Agreed. I think they'll score more than the 10 they scored in overtime against Illinois. But I don't see them scoring over 24, and I don't see them holding Ohio State under 40. Ohio State will have the 24 in the first half.
